I'll be totally honest...I'm surprised 09 has been given a new contract. I just dont see it, ability wise, in the premier league. But what the **** do i know. He's a legend already for what he's done for the club so far, if he pulls this off, he can go into the all time great category, for me.
Clubs go looking far and wide for players. But they look far and wide for good characters too and there are few in the game better than this bloke. Very pleased for him. And very pleased for us!
Rigg and Neil next please. Remember watching Sunderland til I die and onien told Alex Neil he would be her best 19th man in history. What a bloke, happy for him
The club are so fortunate to have someone like Luke playing for them. He’s the glue that binds everything together. He was here when the club was at rock bottom and he was here during the incredibly highs. He is a SAFC legend.
I must say you have been adamant on this mind! I have a hunch they'll force him to stay , but it certainly can't go on much longer so we'll soon know.
I’d never travel too far for a friendly (did it once for the hoffenheim friendly about 20 years ago). however if Luke O’Nien ever gets his testimonial I will move heaven and earth to be there. My favourite ever Sunderland player. A light throughout the dark times. Everything I want in a Sunderland player. Hard work, determination, pride, humility and significantly more talented than he gets credit for. Cannot wait to see him on a premier league pitch.
Nobody deserves a shot at the big league more than him. Worked his absolute arse off, the fact he's wound up some of the ****e players we've had just makes me like him more (referencing the Tom Flanagan podcast with WTF recently). Played pretty much every position in pretty much every formation and playing style you can think of under some good, some average and some bad coaches. Can't wait to see him try and kiss Haaland or get a piggyback off Van Dijk
Luke O'Nien is an absolute credit to himself and his family. We've been fortunate that he's chosen to represent the club and the city with such pride and respect. I hope that the club continue to keep Luke around for a long time to come and partner with him in whatever his next venture will be (probably some kind of mentality coaching) because I've no doubt that he'll be successful at that too. I'm not expecting him to be a regular this season but I'm sure we'll see him off the bench at times and in the cups.
The thing people never realise when they all "hear" something is that they're all in the same WhatsApp group!
Sunderland are a lovely club but they don't hand over two years money for a lucky mascot ... ... O'Nien will be wanting to play and I, for one, would love to see it. He's been written off more times than the clown's car at the Cirque du Soleil
