Is there a death penalty for fishing without a licence?

    If not, why not?

This all feeds into the scenario of Trump being a weak leader.

He will buckle and cave in to Russian demands, because they know that they can just sit it out for long enough for Trump to demand that Ukraine gives up land to secure a peace deal, so that Trump can claim the win.

Israel are looking at this and thinking **** it, let's go for broke whilst this guy is in power. Build Jewish settlements in as much land as possible now, Annex Gaza and eventually the West Bank too.

The result. No peace for Israel and another generation of insurgency and an emboldened Putin who will be back to take more land from Ukraine in the future.

In all honesty in my head this uygher thing is all overblown. If somebody would like to do some research and confirm this uygher thing is bbc western propaganda (see westy and ck for support). All i heard is that these uygher numbers in the millions all comes from a guy called adrian senz who sits in some uni office, extrapolates his numbers from a couple of interviews so if someone can research this for me that would be nice

Maybe that's just me and my bias though. Will probably head to xinjiang next year and report back. My missus uncle went there last year and the pics look bang on. Mountains, desserts, valleys with horses and the lot. Cost him **** all as well.

Yeah you are probably right, I think I only knew about it because of some song. Shows how easy it is to spread propaganda. Although I think SKY did some documentary on it one time, they were called something like re-education camps, I'm a sucker for that sort of ****.

Anyway more importantly, how's your Mandarin, think I might need to start learning it if the future is Xi

Hope your grandad is still keep well bro, he's a role model to all of us on the longevity of life.

My mandarin is pretty ****. I really should start learning more of it. I have done a bit of it on an app. I can speak cantonese fluently though which is still common in the south.

Yeah, the re-education places. Whilst i don't think they are as comfortable as the government make it out to be, it would be interesting to know the truth.

Gramps is good, need to give him a call. Will be doing my annual trip in oct to see him and burn stuff.

    Excited for the footie season

There’s been estimates from various sources and what they seem to be doing is assuming 10% of the Uyghur population in each village are held in these camps. They all say the same, though. It’s impossible to know how credible this is.

I’ve just been reading this here…

    https://merics.org/en/comment/where-did-one-million-figure-detentions-xinjiangs-camps-come

The one million number was first spouted by the U.N, who I personally don’t trust and the US who were reporting hundreds of thousands. Once the one million number was released the US jumped on the back of that and rounded their estimate up to one million.

So here’s what just came out. Israeli media outlet Channel 13 leaked internal government transcripts from March 2025 that show the Israeli war cabinet knowingly pursued a strategy of starvation in Gaza.

The idea was that by blocking humanitarian aid like food, water, and medicine, they could force Hamas to surrender. But what’s even more shocking is that at the same time, Israel had real opportunities to secure the release of hostages through negotiations.

The leaked records show that Hamas was actually engaging in the talks seriously and was not acting in bad faith. In fact, Israel’s top intelligence and military officials including the heads of the IDF, Shin Bet, and Mossad were all urging Netanyahu to move forward with what is called Phase B of the ceasefire deal.

They believed this could lead to the release of all hostages. They argued that even if the war resumed later, this was the best shot to bring the captives home.
But Netanyahu said no. He rejected their advice, broke the ceasefire, and escalated the war anyway. He chose to continue the siege and starvation strategy, hoping it would succeed where negotiations might not.

Five months later, dozens of hostages are still unaccounted for, Gaza is in famine, and now we have proof that the Israeli government chose this path even when other options were on the table.

Israel decided to starve the people of Gaza as a strategy of war and in order to sabotage the ceasefire deal, according to Israeli cabinet meeting minutes leaked on Wednesday to Israel’s Channel 13.

The document purports to show that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu refused multiple proposals that would have secured the release of the remaining Israeli captives during the ceasefire between January and March 2025. Netanyahu decided to break the ceasefire, against the advice of top Israeli military and security officials, and to cut off all aid to Gaza to “force Hamas to surrender,” the leak shows.

Can't say much is surprising tbh ... whatever is left of 'Hamas' it doesn't take much intelligence to realise that their last bargaining chip is the remaining hostages and the only probable way to get them returned safely is a 'deal' that effectively ends the conflict... anything else only ends one way ...

This has been Israel's plan all along, to steal more land from the Palestinians, displace them from their homelands and try to bury the notion of a Palestinian state.

Said this right at the beginning of this particular conflict, that it was an attempt at ethnic cleansing, and that's exactly what we're seeing.

It's never been about the hostages for Netanyahu, because he's had several opportunities to release ALL of them and he's chosen to pursue conflict instead every time.
