I’m not saying it’s a conspiracy, the whole system favours the established clubs. Every club should be able to spend the same amount. How the current system is just accepted by everyone is funny. If someone pitched a new league and said okay top 6 can spend £300 million but the guys down the bottom can only spend £100 million they’d be laughed out the room.
The problem with PSR is that it’s monopolised who can spend the most based on their clout. Manchester United and Liverpool are the two biggest clubs in England and two of the biggest clubs in the world. They pull in huge amounts of revenue because they are a global brand. They’re much bigger than just Greater Manchester and Merseyside whereas a club like Newcastle is big in the North East but not a big brand outside of that region, at least not comparable to the big North West and London clubs. So, even though Newcastle have been more successful than Man Utd in the league for the past few years and they have wealthier owners, they still don’t have the means to outspend Man Utd in the transfer market. If you look at Saudi Arabia’s league and how that has rapidly grown in terms of quality and prestige, it has all been down to money. The AFC doesn’t have the same restrictions as UEFA so they can spend freely and it has drawn a lot of talent. Al-Hilal were really impressive in the Club World Cup. Unlike China, the Saudi league doesn’t look like a flash in the pan and shows no signs of slowing down in terms of their growth.
Genuinely don’t know what the alternative to PSR is. A salary cap would have to be globally implemented otherwise you’re harming your national leagues.
Psr may have been good if it was implemented 100 years ago But when some clubs have been able to become absolute powerhouses due to success That comes with a ridiculous amount of revenue that other clubs cant match So theres quickly a power imbalance And a bit of a closed shop reeally Like kalman said Newcastle dont have the revenue fields man u do for example becasue they didnt have the success in the 90s n 2000s
I wouldn't say folk are happy about PSR making the premier League and a few parachute clubs basically a cartel, but until it changes that's what we are dealing with. And its not like our owner is in a position to bankroll us to that level anyway, so it's a moot point in our situation. I do agree something needs to change though.
The only fair way is to say, you can spend XXXX number of pounds on a combination of transfer fees and wages irrespective of revenue.

Championship clubs all getting the same amount? Prem clubs the same? It could work but itd have to be the same in other countries too or suddenly real madrid would have every top prem player and theyd dominate (more than they have) Tricky

Yeah, there isn't a perfect solution. But surely they can find one that's better than the current situation.
