Just quickly off the top of my head in no particular order: 1. Home to city in the fa cup, 3 up at half time against 10 men. 2. Home to West Ham during lockdown 3. Home to United, “Lads, it’s Spurs” 4. Zagreb away under Jose 5. Losing to relegated Portsmouth in an FA cup semi-final.
Lunatic fringe indeed. Some of them seem to live for the opportunity to be upset, and I doubt there is anything they could not find an angle to be upset about. It's a strange new type of "fan" because they don't really meet my definition of what a supporter is. They may be the product of TalkShite etc, who presumably always choose the most deranged to put on air when they get a choice, and model themselves on that crowd. Not sure what they would have made of our relegation season, probably their heart would have given out before the end. I wonder how much all that self-inflicted stress is shortening their life? Fortunately there is a much higher standard of debate on here!
I think it would be interesting to hear Spurs fan expectations before the 1950s and early 60s. In other words before the great achievements of that era. Were the expectations lower? I think since then Spurs fans have expected more. In the modern era we have become one of the big 6, but number 6 of the 6. That means we are often going to be close but no cigar. Winning the Europa will again raise expectations with some fans. We have also been the glamour team because of the style of play expected from Spurs and having players like Greaves,Gazza, Hoddle, Ardilles, Klinsmann Ginola, for example. So in other words for many Spurs fans their expectation are beyond the reality of the real position of the team, most of the time. Finally, how much of it is due to the rivalry with Arsenal and being a London team? This is just my view, I think for example that our closest counterparts are probably Newcastle and you will probably find that their fans will also include people whose expectations are not matched by reality.
Annoyingly, I think Bissouma replacing Palhinha instead of Gray could have seen out the win. On the other hand, I'm amazed he's still at the club. We are just awful at moving players on.
His indiscipline makes him less attractive to other clubs and therefore harder to sell. We may be awful at moving players out, but someone needs to want them.
Says a lot that the interest from Juve or even Fenerbahce early in the window evaporated Probably would have seen out the match if he came on, but he has a long history of being late for training so Frank was right to put his foot down
Guys for **** sake move on.. I mean I like you all, so I'm genuinely giving you the best possible advise here.
Sounds like a new deal for Bentancur is set to follow Spence according to Ali Gold. Well happy with that, towards the end of last season and then the other night vs Paris he looked like the Conte Bentancur. Class player outside of that ACL. Proper CL pedigree type of player too. Romero next though please! Followed by Porro and possibly van de Ven too if he can stay clear from injuries.
It's probably based on when the individual started supporting Spurs. Since the first season I saw all the home matches was our relegation season, it has had an impact on my expectations, maybe just subconsciously. But I do remember debates in several seasons where we were lower or mid table and discussing whether if we got a few good results together we might make it into the UEFA Cup (as it was then).
I started in 1960 so my expectations should be sky high The first team in the 20th century to win the double. Then 1963 the first British club to win a European Trophy. So come on Spurs when are you going to win the double AGAIN?
The topless bus parade following the winning of the Europa Cup did remind me of seeing Danny Blanchflower on Black & White TV being interviewed following Super Spurs Double.
You're right but we've known since June he had no future at the club. It's now become 10x harder to get rid thanks to his latest escapade.
