Yea another good option, and I used to use that as well. Parking is good but can fill up quiet quickly. I found it easier than Cheshunt though....
She got A*s in English Lit and Sociology and an A in History (3/200 marks off an A*) in her A level results today so the place at Oxford is confirmed. She got 148/150 on one of the English papers I’m very proud
Excellent. I was a working class kid who went to Oxford. It's a great place to study once you get over the imposter syndrome.
I felt a bit out of place in the first few days with my room being right on a 16th century quad with tourists wandering around. An American came and looked through my window and called his family over saying "Come and look at this...there are people in here". But once you discover that most of the other students are just ordinary people who are a bit cleverer than average all is fine.
She’s going to Jesus College, which is 16th century. Can’t cook in the rooms; can’t even bring a toaster. It was pointed out on the Offer Holders’ Day that “you’ll be living in an artefact”
We're all living in an artefact, it's called the United Kingdom. Congratulations to her, a great achievement.
Her mum must be bright... Well done to her. Is there any chance of a bursary? With those results, I would have hoped so?
Oxford are very generous with funding. There are bursaries which depend on parental income, but there are others paid to "disadvantaged" students who have come from state schools or the vast deprived wastelands known as the north of England. They also hand out money to all students for a variety of things, including an allowance to allow them to go on a holiday overseas once per year! It really is a fantastic opportunity
I went to North Staffs Poly. No right minded institution wanted me...which I fully understood at the time. Still, it turned out to be their loss as I got a First Class LLb...much to everyone's amazement (especially mine). I'm sure your daughter is bright enough to work things out for herself, but it's the time to face one's demons and failings and become the very best of yourself. Ah, to be young, gifted and northern...
Congratulations to her and your family. Just tell her to keep an eye out for a future generation of Tory politicians. Other than that, I'm sure she'll be fine! Following in the footsteps of Tolkien. Lots of people will be extremely and justifiably jealous. Well earned.
She won’t take any **** from them. Don’t worry about that! If they want to take her on in an argument, they won’t know what’s hit them.
