We aren’t going to risk our main players, we didn’t last night, as our priority is the league. If we progress to the latter rounds that may change, depending on our league position. If we’re challenging for top 6 etc that’ll be priority, however if we’re hovering mid table, then we may reset and prioritise cup competitions instead
RM is far more robust and competitive than JB. JB had a cultured left foot whereas RM is far more likely to run through a brick wall. They're both good players but for me in different ways.
Absolutely agree - and that’s what we did very well in the LJ cup run - at first. We had Steele in goal and for the most part LJ played the ‘B’ team. We only got the ‘big guns’ out for the QF vs Man U (with the exception of Steele who kept his place) and subsequent semi vs Man C. That cup run arguably killed off our promotion push - let’s hope we don’t do that again.
AH HAbut at that point it will be to late cups will have finished! it needs to be an early decision ... a positive!
1-0 up with a couple of minutes left and we contrived to lose the game 2-1 and with the loss went our confidence
We won’t do it earlier and risk injuries to key players that could potentially affect our league performances. We’d be daft to do any different.
thats the whole point if we send "SO ASSUMED" teams out with the smaller fish in our squad then might not get past first couple of rounds so a bland season no cup runs no play off's ..... a good cup run could be an incentive?
Or we could overwork an already stretched squad, potentially injuring one or more, take MKD for instance, we played SU Sat and have Charlton this coming Sat, do we really want to risk injuries to our players by playing them 3 times in a week?, it gives us an opportunity to utilise our squad, playing some fringe players, whilst resting others, it’s a no brainier.
'I played Sunday League for 3 seasons and lucky to play with a keeper who walked out on City aged 17, as he 'wasn't cleaning anyone's boots'. We tried to get him to sign Western League, he wouldn't as 'I'm not training twice a week'. His attitude was obviously not the best but the best keeper I've ever seen who never play professional football. I can tell you having a brilliant keeper makes one hell of a difference....he kept us in so many games that we eventually drew or won. He was that much better than the rest of us put together. As I said he kept us in games and more importantly broke 'their' spirit. That's why I agree with Carragher, a top keeper in any league, is essential for a successful team. As for Max, I think he's 'ordinary' and sorry to say matches City's ambition'. I hope in time Vitek vindicates/proves the point of having a top keeper.
Goalkeepers are a special breed. Their personalities are different - often awkward. They are ‘different’ to everyone else and a law unto themselves. I liken them to the drummer in a band. Every drummer I’ve played with was just a little ‘different’ in personality and VERY hard to pin down for practices/gigs.
I bet the board can’t wait for Max to be fit again so we can send Vitek back to Man U and end all this positivity nonsense.
Nice to see 3 City players make Sky’s ‘Team of the Week’ !! https://www.facebook.com/share/177Y2DMYpN/?mibextid=wwXIfr
If the first few games are anything to go by, he’s going to be a premier league level keeper, no one’s suggesting Max is that good, but he’s our level. Just like the rest of our team, if the look like they’re good enough for the step up, we sell them, it’s how things are until we can manage to get ourselves promoted.
it is not that simple ........ training is based on the run of match's throughout the whole season resting and graft is all part of it.. as ordinary people we do not have the same outlook as the proffessionals although some believe they know more... which is fine diversity of opinion means we all need one ...or it becomes boring!
True, but whilst I know players get injured in training, it’s also true to say the more matches they play, especially with our new managers preferred tactics of high intensity high press front foot football, the more likely a player is to sustain an injury. The nature of the game is far removed from what it used to be, and probably adds to the amount of injuries players have now come compared to bygone eras
Excuse my ignorance but how can Wrexham pay £10m for the Ipswich winger Broadhurst Does FFP not apply to them ?!!
