I mentioned this on the reserves thread, but I just wanted to expand on it in my own thread as my cock is the size of a pringles can.

Imo, this would be a great formation for us, and I'm surprised it isn't used more. Let's just assume it's when everyone is fit:

    -------------------Krul-------------------
    Simpson --- Saylor --- Coloccini --- Santon
    --------Tiote --- Cabaye --- Jonas-------
    -----------Ben Arfa --- Vuckic------------
    --------------------Ba-------------------

    Let's just break it down:

    --------Tiote --- Cabaye --- Jonas-------

There would be no out-and-out-wingers. However, these players would swap and change positions as needed, as they all have the skill to do so. For example, Tiote can act as a defensive midfield to de-possess the opposition, but he also has free reign to take the ball up down the wing if the opportunity arises. This also allows all 3 players to act as CMs and play a short passing game which feeds the ball up to our attack force.

    -----------Ben Arfa --- Vuckic------------
    --------------------Ba-------------------

Why have one AM when you can have two <diva>. The three man midfield can sit a little deeper as we'll have a three-pronged attack up front. Ben Arfa and Vuckic sit just on either flank near the centre and work together with Ba to create goalscoring opportunities. For example, If Ben Arfa has the ball, Vuckic and Ba can make themselves available up front. If Vuckic gets it, then Ben Arfa and Ba can go ahead to continue play. For the most part though, Vuckic and HBA will work together whilst Ba stays right up near the top and gets himself into goalscoring positions.

I know it's similar to 4-3-3, but I think having two AMs just behind Ba in a 2-1 would work very well. It let's the midfield behind them control that area, and it lets Ba get right up ahead whilst those two can act as playmakers near the oppositions box.

    Just an idea lllllike.

Meh I can see why, but I don't like a team without width.

    Hows about:

    --------------Krul--------------
    Simmo---Saylor---Colo---Santon
    ---Guthrie---Tiote---Cabaye----
    Ben Arfa------------------Jonas
    --------------Ba---------------

I much prefer having a threat from wide and getting in behind full backs. Plus getting balls into the box regularly.

Bit too narrow ur porn for my liking.

The fluidity does allow quite a degree of width. Tiote and Jonas, if needed, can both go right out towards the edge of the pitch if they see an opportunity to do so, with Cabaye in the middle. Equally, they can all narrow in a bit to play a shorter passing game if the opportunity arises. I'd say it's best that they all stay in a lined unit of 3, moving the ball up the pitch and then feeding it off to the AM playmakers who can decide what to do next.

I like the look of that, but we're sans Guthrie for a while now so I'd get Best back in for him and go 4-4-2 <ok>

And Steven Taylor is out too you know? :D

Looks good but need a bit of width, maybe 4-2-3-1 would be better

I would like this if everyone is fit:

    - - - - - - - - Krul
    Simo - Taylor - Colo - Santon
    - - - - - - -Cabaye - Tiote
Anyone but Obertan - HBA - Jonas
    - - - - - - - - - - -Ba

I don't know why we're so winger focused considering that one of our weakest positions is arguably wingers. Jonas is an important player but isn't particularly good at crossing, whilst Obertan is balls. When it comes to scoring goals and winning games, do we really rely on our wings as much as we think?

Did you come up with this idea due to the time of the year we are at or are you actually Ron Atkinson?

With our team i'd much rather see a 4-2-3-1 formation too as other people have said.

Using a middle 3 of Cabaye, Tiote and Gutierrez is just plain.... odd.

I think that would have only worked if we managed to capture, according to the papers, Matuidi. Or at least a similar player. Maybe Guthrie can do that roll when hes back?

Otherwise id sit Cabaye and Tiote in the middle and play Jonas, Ben Arfa and one other just behind Ba.

Obertan im not sold on yet... but it might be too early for Abeid/Vuckic

Awesome! In that case, in keeping with the festive spirit I do hope we use the Christmas tree formation in the match before Christmas. It would really perks thing up.
