Bisc beat me to it. I was wrongly calling the keeper releasing the ball as a goal kick every time when it isn't. I meant exactly what he said.

 

well in that case i stand by my how the **** is the gk going to see how many fingers the ref is holding up when he might be near/ on the halfway line

 

Why would they be standing there? And even if they are, It worked perfectly fine throughout two tournaments so not sure what the issue is

I'm seeing your side of this now. I think in practice though, the ref will get a sense of whether the keeper is intentionally wasting time and will walk towards him as he counts down so there will be no doubt about what's happening.

If it’s overhit, keeper won’t pick it up. You can also still see a person on the halfway line from the penalty area and when you know you have 8 seconds, you surely then realise oh I’ve had ball for 5 seconds, ref has put his arm up and sees to be counting. Maybe I should drop the ball or throw it out

 

Yes. If you see a ref walking away with his back turned he is inviting a keeper to timewaste.

Remember this is not dead ball goal.kicks its laying down on the ball pickford style.

I'll bet you refs stsrt allowing keepers slowly get to their feet before thry start counting. If they even do.

I would have liked the FA to go the whole hog on time wasting and not allow what we saw at the weekend, player sitting down three separate times when it was obvious the first time he should have been told to leave the pitch. Suspected head injuries aside, a quick word with the player to check it's just cramp or a twinge and the player has, then, to leave the field for treatment. No 5 minute time waste and jumping back up with nothing really wrong.
