League cup QF by any chance? I was planning on doing it this season but not sure I can be arsed midweek. Derby the following Saturday too so that's two long trips within a few days.
I don't think anyone disputes that My point is that negativity is fine and perfectly fair but when it's married up with assuming the good outcomes for everybody else but only the bad outcomes for us, then it ceases to be rational negativity - it's just misery. I can't really put it any better than LTL did further up the thread
Hold on tight, guys. Only one game played. A win. I sense a few fans would have gone off the Itchen Bridge if we’d lost. We will play better than that and lose…and worse than that and win. After last season I just want points…great performances will be the cherry on the cake.
You're right Fran but this is a Saints matchday thread where commonsense and reality aren't often found.
And that's fair enough but it was a tiny part of the overall point, I just think people confuse realistic with negativity sometimes. It's like some want to forget the last 12 months happened and draw a line under it and forget it happened but I'm firmly of the camp of remembering it intently so not to repeat it. I understand it's a new manager and new system and its one game, that's fine but it's with 90-95% of the same players who let us all down severely last year and I'm not just going to forget that because we clutched a 2-1 win in the last 5 minutes after another poor overall performance (in my opinion). The last thing I want this season is to go back up, scraping wins to then just be embarrassed again next season because what is the point? Again some would call that negative, I just think it is realistic. I'm still looking forward to the game tonight, I hope we play with a bit more purpose and a bit more confidence in the final 3rd as opposed to aimless crosses in the box for 90 minutes. I'm not looking to throw myself into the Itchen because of a loss but I'm also able to look at a win, enjoy it but also see the gaping issues that may arise later in the season if not addressed.
Been there twice for cup games Saints won, Adebayo Akinfenwa was playing for them, he is BIG Basingstoke Town, drew, won replay at home No corners if I recall correctly
I like to try and do both. That way you guarantee an argument with basically everyone at one point or another.
You can have my ticket. Was looking forward to it until I realised I would have to travel from Menorca.
