Less likely to get injured jogging round a field on his own mind

We are desperate for a defender for West Ham.

we have a cracking start to the season and having weaknesses in the team is only going to hinder us

    our manager thinks so

I don't think we had either player fit enough for long enough to determine whether they'd have been in the first team or not?

I wouldn't be upset to see Huggins and Seelt in our starting lineup, both have premier league potential imo.

He was wise to stay away from the BBQ as well ...

... some of my most serious injuries have involved lighter fluid and pork chops <laugh>

That's only because we're a newly promoted side and won't be powerful in every area ...

    ... as you'd expect.

Burnley have just sold all their best players as usual, otherwise they'd be better.

Tbf Burnley still currently have a better defence than we do.

You just had to watch him when he was fit and had a run of games to see his quality

I'd agree, as things currently stand, but they're weaker in other area.

They depended on their defence, last season, but will need more than that in the PL.

Some players simply have quality ...

... Rigg is currently injured but that doesn't alter the fact.

Comparing Hume and Huggins might have been debatable 18 months ago but Hume has played a lot games since then and really grown as a player. Even captained his country. Huggins, though no fault of his own, has been sat watching. Doesn’t seem fair or sensible to compare them right now.

i have a feeling that we are the most likely to sign Lucumi. However, search his name on X and there’s Barcelona, AC Milan and Chelsea fans discussing why their teams should buy him. Someone higher in the food chain could appear at any moment, dependent on injuries/outgoings. I think his agent has kicking the can down road for a few weeks hoping a big rival offer came in. Would be belter news if we got a here we go this week.

I really hope we are having one last throw of the kitchen sink at Diakite/Bade too.

Personally I'm not comparing them at all, just saying Huggins has quality.

Because they were both injured, had they not been I'm sure they would have played a lot of games

I think what’s likely with the centre backs is that we are (rightly) aiming high and therefore with that will come all sorts of reasons why deals take time:
    • Club expects ridiculous fee
    • Player wants to wait and see if champions league clubs come in
    • Clubs want to sign replacements first.
At some point somebody has to blink. And unfortunately we don’t hold all the cards here. As selling clubs may be willing to wait until later in August and we can’t really afford to.

I expect we will therefore “blink” at some point in the next 3-5 days and bring somebody in in time for West Ham. Then a second one to follow later in August.

I agree with what you say here. I think similarly with the goalkeeper, we went for very ambitious targets that we couldn’t quite get over the line whether that be financially or more likely players just not ready to join us at this stage of where we want to be.

With the keeper, we pivoted, went for someone a little less known, possibly a bit less quality now but one we think can grow with the club.

I have a feeling we could do the same with a defender. But defo wouldn’t rule out a higher profile signing, if we can get xhaka done, we can’t rule out us getting another that no one would think was realistic.

I agree there think he has all the attributes to be a top quality player. I really hope this is the year he gets to show it.

I wouldn’t say people are pissing their pants. It’s a valid concern to have. We’ve strengthened everywhere else and it’s clear currently CB needs it the most.

Maybe we’ve just not managed to land our top targets in time and that’s fair enough. There’s still an entire week ahead where we could sign 2 and all is good.

All people are saying is if we do go into West Ham without any it’s going to put us on the back foot.

Not digging at the club just people are allowed to be a bit concerned we haven’t gotten that area strengthened yet.

Also this whole “convincing players” stuff, we’ve done that for multiple top players already and pulled off one of the best moves a newly promoted club has ever made. I think we can manage to convince a centre back or two to join

I think it’s valid if we don’t have a CB in by West Ham while the only fit defender as of right now who’s played enough minutes for us is Ballard then that’s just not great is it.

Seelt, has a knock and is being eyed up for a loan, Hjelde injured, Alese injured, O9 injured. We only have Reinildo and Ballard and Reinildo is more comfortable at LB.

Just think we shouldn’t be quick to dismiss people’s valid concerns. Still plenty time but let’s not act like we can’t have them

That's just your opinion of what people think ...

... what you see as 'excuses' is other people's reality which may just be more reasonable than your own.

You shouldn't be so quick to dismiss people's opinions as excuses.

Not being rude but your list of excuses is much longer tbh.
