Always wary judging a player on a highlight reel, but he looks like he can hold the ball up well, isn't afraid to put his foot in and has a good poacher's instinct

He’s not afraid to head the ball either, looks like a brave lad too.
Good video - it even showed him missing a few sitters <cheers>

Sunderland AFC is delighted to announce that Eliezer Mayenda has signed a new long-term contract.

Following an unforgettable breakthrough season at the Stadium of Light, the striker has committed his future to the Club until 2030.

Mayenda scored 10 goals and contributed five assists last campaign, playing an integral role as Régis Le Bris’ side clinched a return to the Premier League following an eight-year absence.

A scorer in the Black Cats’ semi-final victory over Coventry City, the 20-year-old ended the season by netting at Wembley Stadium in the 2025 Championship Play-Off final to cement his place in Wearside history.

Mayenda’s domestic efforts also led to deserved international recognition, as he became a Spain Under-21 international earlier this year.

Now, he’s ready for the Premier League, stating: “I'm very happy to sign a new contract. I think everybody knows that for me, this is my team, my Club, my city – so it's a special moment. Sunderland fans are very, very special. I think they’re among the best in England. Playing at the Stadium of Light is always incredible. So, if I have one message, it’s to keep going like that – I feel amazing every time I step on the pitch.”

Kristjaan Speakman added: “We are delighted with Eliezer’s progress throughout the last two years. Whether you’re a supporter, a member of staff, or one of his team-mates, it’s been immensely rewarding to follow and support his development to this point. Although this is a moment to reflect and celebrate his progress, it is also an opportunity to reset our objectives and expectations. Eli is an important player for us, and his commitment will be significant as we embark upon the Premier League season. He’s a great character who understands our Club, and I know our supporters will be delighted by this news.”

Fabrizio Romano on Twitter:

Arthur Masuaku to Sunderland, here we go! Deal agreed with the left back.

Exclusive details: he’s signing a two year deal at [HASHTAG]#SAFC[/HASHTAG] with medical completed today.

Masuaku, next signing for Sunderland project with more to follow.

(31 year old left back. Free agent, at Besiktas last season and has PL experience from his time at West Ham - played over 100 games there)

Not really sure I understand this one.

Cirkin could be going, i suppose. Good that Fabrizio's article mentioned more to follow. Hopefully something imminent.
I’ve been saying for a while i’d offload Cirkin if there’s a decent enough offer. We need players fit to play and a few million could chip into a quality CB or a different attacking player. He can play like but he’s flaky.

He was also absolute dogshit in the 2nd half of the season
He was, though to be fair he was in agony with his arm and he still played when he could. Something about an arm break that was operated on but not fixed apparently. I feel for the lad but I just get the vibe his head goes so I hope he gets better but my head wil go if we lose every week !

Link from the other thread that may be credible. Paraguayan left sided CB. Strong in the air and a decent passer

Omar Alderete set for a Premier League move with Sunderland and Crystal Palace keen on him. Getafe 28yo centre-back has also been proposed to Bournemouth but not a priority. Things are expected to speed up soon. [HASHTAG]#SAFC[/HASHTAG] [HASHTAG]#CPFC[/HASHTAG] [HASHTAG]#AFCB[/HASHTAG]

Easy to forget that the lad played with a broken wrist. And that he played 36 games last season, more than many. He is no crock.

Some people (they’re not fans- fans can accept the rough with the smooth - that’s football) are falling into the arrogance of the premier league already - and effectively writing off the young lads who gambled in league one for this time
When no established players would have touched us with a ten foot barge pole. - get behind the lad ffs
