Yep, I remember that one too, didn't Steve Massey bag a brace? The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
Yeah I remember that game … I’ll have been about 14/15, stood half way down Kempton opposite the away fans … was glad there was fencing up cos they were absolutely mental. The atmosphere was amazing, shame we don’t get that nowadays
Brid Town came from a goal behind and a man sent off to beat Knaresborough Town 2-1 in the FA Cup Extra Preliminary round replay last night. Now through to the Preliminary round.
Beat me to it! They play West Auckland Town away on August 16th. Bit of trivia, West Auckland Town are the holders of the Sir Thomas Lipton Trophy, which they won in 1911 (and in 1909). They beat FC Zurich in the semis, and then Juventus 6-1 to win it. Apparently, there's an urban legend whereby the FA wanted nothing to do with the competition and refused to send a league side at first. Eventually, they decided to send Woolwich Arsenal and the secretary at the FA was handed a note that said "contact W.A." and rang West Auckland instead. Probably not true but funny nevertheless .
Ah yes, the rearranged game. I decided to travel to the original fixture on a coach. We depearted Hull to a light flurry of snow. Being very much the new kid on the block/bus, I politely suggested we kept the radio on. No, we always listen to this. Slowly meandering across the hills towards Burnley we passed plod and his motorbike, who promptly chased after and stopped us. The game had been called off about two hours ago. That was me done with coaches. Back to the much needed 3.0. Twas the day I realised blunts fans were a sub-human species.
We stopped at the services where city players coach was parked they told us they weren’t going on .We looked at the morning papers to see the other fixtures. We went to Leeds Road to see Huddersfield v Blackburn .i can only remember two things about the afternoon Noel Brotherston playing for Rovers and getting absolutely battered by Town fans on the old staircase at the back of the stand .
Ha ha. I didn’t realise that the Bolton stadium was now called ‘Toughsheet Community Stadium’. Brilliant. Probably accidentally brilliant.
No restrictions on Sheff Wed starting season - EFL please log in to view this image 01:15 Media caption, How the Sheffield Wednesday crisis is impacting fans Mandeep Sanghera BBC Sport journalist Published 46 minutes ago 14 Comments The EFL says there are no restrictions stopping Sheffield Wednesday starting the Championship season on Sunday but has called on the troubled club's owner to end the "current uncertainty and impasse". It is in "advanced discussions" with Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri over the sale of the club amid a tumultuous off-season featuring delayed wages for players and staff, registration and transfer-fee embargoes and stand closures. In a statement, the EFL said it has extended the fee restriction on the club, meaning they are unable to complete any transfers or loans which involve a fee until after the January 2027 winter transfer window. The Hillsborough side, who travel to Leicester City for their season opener on Sunday, have lost £178m between 2015, when Thai businessman Chansiri bought the club, and 2024. Manager Danny Rohl left the club by mutual consent in July while the North Stand at Hillsborough has closed because of concerns over its structural integrity. Players and staff have had wages delayed during May, June and July, and a behind-closed-doors training match with Burnley was cancelled after the squad refused to play. BBC Sport understands Owls players will fulfil the trip to Leicester on Sunday as the first-team squad who have been fit enough to train this week are available for selection. The EFL met on Wednesday to get a comprehensive update on the situation at the Hillsborough club and, as a result said "there are no restrictions on the club starting the season on Sunday as planned". Lisa Nandy was on LBC and said the new regulator will have the power to compel owners to sell clubs in extreme cases of mismanagement.
Salford currently have no coach travel for the game this weekend as the club owes the transport company and they won't provide further service. They also don't have access to their kit because the laundrette is owed money and won’t give kit back until they're paid.
