I think the Gelhardt move makes some sense for Leeds long-term as well as the player. If he has another stand-out loan spell in the Championship he’ll be worth more than he is now and he’ll probably catch the eye of teams better than he currently is, such as a Premier League side.
I thought someone said he was in the last year of his contract though. Unless they force through a sell in January.
He’s contracted to summer 2027. He’d still have another year left. At which point they could extend his contract to get a bigger fee.
Fully agree, he’s got the potential to be a very good player. I wouldn’t blame him for wanting to go though, our fans have treated him poorly from the off.
After Joffy I’d say we’re a Frigan + midfielder shy of being done. Very happy where things have ended up.
So to recap, we're going bust, Acun has no money, we can't pay the players without some mysterious bank deposit from abroad, we haven't paid some local suppliers for months, we owe loads of other clubs money for players we bought or loaned, we're asking for money up front on players we sold rather than the usual staged payments, can't afford a new kit for this season so will carry on using last years, sanctioned by the EFL so we can't buy anyone, a wages cap and every deal has to be sanctioned by them. On the other hand. We've paid someone to fit some safe standing rails, re jigged the exit so we don't get the mass exodus walking pitch side, got a new kit which looks OK especially the away one, the new manager seems to be getting more out of players that were poor last season, we've had a good preseason, brought in good players (including the next Messi and Ronaldo as always) got rid of some over paid wasters. The future is bright, the future is orange.
Summed up nicely. Going to be a long old season for some. Whilst most of us will be enjoying a great season with a good set of players hopefully turning in decent performances under a manager that seems to have a watchable style, others will be sat grinding their teeth staring at the Directors box praying for lightening.
We can't offer a signing on bonus either ATM, so that will have to be added onto the weekly wages too
He signed a new five year deal in 2022, if they had a one year option, it would take it to 2028 (but there was no mention of an option when he signed the deal).
I don't know how you can say there is 'realistically little or no resale value on McBurnie' If he is a roaring success and scores us 15/20 goals this season, which is what we all hope then other cubs will be beating a path to our door to buy him.
Unfair comparison IMO. Mason was the victim of a very, very unfortunate 'accident', no fault of the club or loss of form on the players part and I thought we recouped some of the money through insurance?
