Loads of factors at play with his wages...

We paid a fee for Bullard (was it 5 million?) on top of his wages so McBurnie won't be costing us as much as he did, and it'll almost certainly end up better value for minutes played barring a complete catastrophe.

People are comparing to Bullard who we signed in 2009. Things have changed since then and generally speaking players do get paid more now than they did then so it's natural over a 16 year period for us to be paying more, even being a league below.

No transfer fee, only wages. He'll probably cost us less than Sinik did over the course of his contract. We paid 4 million for him in transfer fees before anything else.

We're paying for a proven player rather than a gamble or a young loanee from the heights above. If he signs, we have a known asset at this level and one who should fit into how the manager seems to want us to play. Generally you get what you pay for.

    The EFL have cleared it.

I honestly don't know what else the club can do to try and please some people (spoiler, they can't). We basically get the striker 'we've been promised since Acun came in' in a position we supposedly won't scrimp on and an area we have been really light in... And it's a problem due to wages despite being a free transfer. I honestly don't know who people would have preferred at this point who would have cost less. We're in full blown 'vendetta' territory now aren't we.

In the deepest darkest corner of my mind I seem to recall Bullard actually suggesting he was on £50k a week, despite him initially agreeing less, made a big joke out of it, add that to the transfer fee and I would suggest he is the most expensive player we've had on our books, and the most fkn annoying.

There is a real obsession these days for not signing players as they don’t have a resale value. Whatever happened to signing players on a free transfer at the peak of their career, having them make valuable contributions for however many years they’re here and then leaving on a free. Surely that’s good value for money?

Even the (presumably) nominal fees for the likes of Crooks and Egan are good value for money despite not getting anything in the future for them. Their experience, as well as McBurnie, is invaluable and been sorely lacking in our side for about a decade now

It’s a healthy way to run a club, instead of just wasting money all the time.

People complain that we try to turn everyone over for a profit and let players go, but then simultaneously complain when we bring an experienced, prime bod in that we probably can't do that with to the same degree. People complained about the Philogene deal where we made something like 8 million out of what was essentially a loan deal for a player we couldn't otherwise have had. They complained we didn't get enough for Greaves. The expectations shift and the goalposts move instance to instance to enable a negative slant. It's that far gone now, that the club can't win regardless of what they do.

With the embargo announcement people were expecting us to be ****ed, but thanks to bringing in what seems to be a good manager and frankly doing some good business so far we're now starting to feel like we've got some potential to be more than cannon fodder for the season.

Really like our manager, like signing some experienced Championship players who know the dark arts. Hopefully our 3 superstars get back too fitness and firing. We are looking ok at the minute.

Some just like to be upset I think.

If we get McBurnie over the line, I think we’re a couple of players away from having a very good squad.

Some very decent business so far and the manager hasn’t put a foot wrong so far, and it looks like the football might finally be enjoyable to watch.

Bring on the new season UTT

Does anyone know what McBurnie has been doing in pre-season? Has he been training with a club or doing stuff on his own? Just wondering what kind of shape he will be in at the moment.

I haven't read back far so excuse if im confirming/repeating. No way the EFL would sanction 45k a week. Second part of that is the club would be mental to do so because of disharmony. We then need to factor in at the end of last season we said we need left and right full backs that would cost us, we have them and they haven't. Then one or two finds will bolster the squad that were already ours and we know they can play, that will have saved us money. if McB costs 4.5 over 3 years including wages and delivers, thats not a bad return.

And just to add to this, a ludicrous salary is simply made up so that the vendetta crew can get really angry about a complete load of bollocks. Utter wierdos.

I get people’s fears, but just swallowing gossip uncritically is never a good look – particularly when it confirms one’s own bias.

I'm still waiting for their King, the anonymous whistle blower, to be revealed and paraded around the stadium as Acun and his band of potless merry men are carted away back to Turkey, driven by Callum Elder wearing a smug grin and a Brewdog t-shirt.

He's a good player and exactly the sort we need.

It also seems like we've probably committed a lot of money to this player on a long term deal, and our record at getting value out of those is very poor.

These things can both be true. We don't have to pretend to know which way it's going to go and argue about which side of the fence we fall on.

All we know is it's a big gamble. I just hope we stick by him and don't expect 20 goals immediately and then clamour for someone else when it doesn't happen. We can't have him out on loan in a year or two's time because we've got bored of him.

Try all the friends and family of suppliers who hadn't been paid and club employees who were genuinely concerned and the compliance bods at the EFL.

It's just be easier for you to be paraded around with an Acun mask and a kappa top with 'sycophant No 1' on the back.
