Not selling unless we reach whatever price we deem good is great and all, but would be nice to occasionally say that a player just isn’t for sale. If we sell all of our players that can actually hack it in the PL, it’ll just make the task of trying to stay there upon promotion even harder.
Really depends on if the player will knuckle down and focus for the season if they're told they're not going. If the club feels a certain player won't, then it's probably best to move on.
Every player has a price tag and if someone is willing to match the clubs valuation and the player wants to go that player is going. If that's the case here then I'd rather it happened now then the end of the window
You can’t even do that on football manager these days. Let alone in real life with real humans involved
If we expect 6 or 7 others to leave before the end of the window (If I had to guess I'd say Dibbling, Fernandes, Aribo, Edozie, ABK, BBD) plus a couple leaving on loan (Sanda, Wood maybe), how many do we expect to bring in? I'll go for 3 permanent additions and 3 loans.
Sounds like Chuba Akpom could be joining Birmingham. If he can repeat the season he had at Boro three years ago, that'll make them an ever bigger threat at the top end of the table.
Will Still on Aribo: “There's been interest around Joe. I've just tried to give him a bit of headspace, a bit of breathing space to do the right things. We'll just see how that develops over the next few days”
If we had a smaller squad, then I'd have been fine keeping Aribo as a squad player and then letting him leave for free when his contract expires next summer. It's unlikely that we'll raise much by selling him this season, and I definitely don't want to extend his contract. But with a need to cut squad numbers (including the wage bill), he's an obvious candidate to sell this month.
The squad is bloated, but as CGT has said, not really in the central midfield options. With Fernandes & Aribo contemplating their futures. Downes & Smallbone injured, we just had Charles as our only senior midfielder. This is not a case to keep Aribo, but he will have to be replaced if he does go. The bloat is left backs, centre backs and wingers who aren’t wingers
I agree with your first, second and fourth sentences. But not your third. I've never seen Aribo as a decent DM option (same as Smallbone). I think we need a third option, to accompany Downes and Charles, regardless of whether Aribo goes or stays. I suspect that is where the loan market will come in. We wasted it last year. Whereas the year before we exploited it well. Hopefully this season will be more like 23-24 than 24-25. We can lose Aribo without needing to replace him specifically.
Forest are apparently close to completing the signing of CM Douglas Luiz from Juventus. Does this mean they will move on from Fernandes? But would also give Juventus money to sign Fernandes?
Aribo might be the player I've been happiest to see the back of in my entire time following the club.
