But clearly true. We finished just outside the relegation places of our fine nation’s second division last year.
Guess it's the flip side of ' buzzing to be here, when I heard there was interest, it was a no brainer'.
‘I want to play in the Premier League, but my agent’s touted me round them all and no one will have me, so I’m willing to consider a league down to try and get noticed there provided they pay me enough’ Edit - just to add, I don’t have a problem with that either, but he’s not likely to say it out loud is he?
The Championship isn’t a top five league though. I’d argue it’s a top ten league in Europe but it’s still second tier. A player who does well in Belgium or the Netherlands can earn a move to a mid-table Bundesliga or Ligue 1 team. Croatia > Belgium > German/French top tier is a natural progression but a move to the Championship is a sideways move. The advantage the Championship has over the Bundesliga or Ligue 1 is that you’re one season away from the Premier League. Championship clubs can also outspend most Bundesliga clubs. Our wage bill is much bigger than Hamburg’s, for example.
I’d say it’s Premier League > La Liga > Bundesliga > Serie A > Ligue 1 > Primeira Liga > EFL Championship in terms of prestige, money and quality.
Id probably swap Serie A and Bundesliga on recent European performance, outside of Bayern most of it is kinda cack.
Yeah I agree with most of that, including the second tier bit. I just think there might still be a minor cultural divide that would make someone with Championship experience more attractive to a Prem club than someone from Belgium or wherever even at a similar quality level. Though obviously if they’re good enough then they wouldn’t care.
Outside the top few the rest of the league isn’t too dissimilar from Scotland really, even in Spain a lot of the top flight is absolute garbage.
Yeah, there’s a case to be made that Eredivisie is better or more prestigious than the Championship but the drop-off in spending power and quality after Ajax, Feyenoord, PSV, AZ Alkmaar and FC Twente is huge. Same applies to the Belgian league. The gulf between Club Brugge and the rest right now is huge.
Well half of my posts here is butchering Turkish league, why we shouldn't buy from them etc., but even Turkish league is way way ahead of EFL. Sorry. I watch both leagues every week, my eyes get bloody when I watch Turkish league after watching PL, but when I open EFL, I consider blinding myself sometimes.
no it's not outside of galatasary and a couple others, its piss poor and even then, they cant usually get through the cl qualifiers
Yeah that’s very true, just visited Naples though and couldn’t help but be infected by it all, they truly love footy.
