Not sure why this is better except for the visuals on TV Our seats are near an exit in the East Stand and people often leave their seats and stand around near the exit near full time and block the view for other people who actually want to watch the game
Don’t disagree with any of this, but my point was more about overcrowding on the stairs inside the stadium going down back towards the turnstiles. It’s overcrowded as is and people get pushed against the railings at the top of the stairs sometimes (happened to me a number of times). Now more people will be using that exit (all at the same time too) they need to manage this better otherwise it’s an accident waiting to happen. They need a better funnel system, otherwise everyone is descending onto one small thin flight of stairs with railings at the top that are difficult to see in a crowd.
Be interesting to see if they do try to manage it differently or just hope it sorts itself organically. I guess today might be a test of the process but have to see how it goes. Less people, but a smaller concourse, in North Stand which is like that anyway (ie everyone leaving the way they came in) and it seems ok to me
The current system has been in place for many years Is it suddenly less safe now ? Surely using more exits spreads the crowd out and is safer ?
If all the fans leaving east all sang Doo Wah City as they left and stamped their feet too it would greatly increase the atmosphere
I’d be in favour of the pitch side blocks between stands being opened and all of the leave early crowd circling the pitch one way only, dancing and singing ‘Disco Dancing City. Nah nah nah nah’ Then at least the final whistle would have an element of ‘musical chairs’ style jeopardy to it. They’d never know whether they’d finish near and exit or not, but would surely enjoy the competitive element.
