They have 14 first team players with more scheduled to leave imminently. Not a fan of the club, but it’s criminal this is allowed to happen. They’ll be struggling to fulfill the opening day fixture if this continues. I feel sorry for the fans.
They won't have a player on their books shortly. The young lad Gassama that went to Rangers has scored 2 cracking goals for them so far.
If they don't play the opening fixture what happens next? And if they don't play the game vs Bolton in the league cup..Is that it. Are they out.?..Then they've got Stoke at home on 16th August....They could quickly be two games behind everyone else...The future looks a bit iffy.
They have asked about switching their first home game to Leicester’s ground. I know a couple of Wednesday fans and what is going on is unbelieveable.
From what I saw on the news it looks like they're fans are resigned to the stark reality that they don't have a football Club to support at present. They've cancelled a friendly, they don't think they'll have enough players to take to the field in their first game of the season and even if they do,the fans look set to boycott. It certainly is unbelievable.
Half watching the Luton v Wimbledon season opener. Absolutely dire in every way. But what might have been...
What’s happening at Sheffield Wednesday is a disgrace. I saw a video of one of their supporters’ trust meetings and a few members had a meeting with EFL representatives. The EFL reps basically said to them ‘we don’t care as long as the club can fulfil its fixtures’. This is why I can’t stand the EFL. I don’t blame them because our owner is a dick who can’t pay bills on time or because Chansiri is an even bigger dick. However, it’s obvious they exist only as a punitive body and don’t give a **** about safeguarding clubs. All they care about is the fixture schedule and handing out sanctions after the damage is done.
I assume if Weds drop out they would be replaced by the team who were highest of those relegated last season and likewise down the chain of leagues. Fixtures would not need to be redone, just the new clubs from the affected lower league chain would slot into Weds original fixture schedule etc. Luton, Crawley and Carlisle would be reprieved from relegation?
No idea T.C,it's the most likely thing when you think about it but can it be organised so quickly or will they just go without Weds and everyone gets 2 void games?
Don't think that would be fair on any of the clubs who would take their place, they would not have had a proper window to strengthen also would have lost some of best players they had when they went down,so they would just be getting promoted to go straight down again probably.
Just watched Scarborough play Sheffield Wednesday under 21's at Queensgate (Brid Town). Ended 1-1, great game, scary to think a few of those lads could be playing away at Leicester on the 10th August.
Think it's too late for that. From memory, when similar has happened to other clubs, their fixtures are voided and no one takes their place. Thinking maybe Maidstone, Newport C, Colne (in Comference) from a while back.
