Unlike Wissa who is being trapped by mean Brentford and I assume is having no contact with anyone at Newcastle hence why he’s not training Tapping up died a death about 15 years ago. It’s common practise among all transfers to get a feel for things with the player first as no point doing all the hassle of getting fee agreed for player to go no thanks. Madrid tapped up TAA for about a year. Is what it is and you just accept that’s the way it works now. If clubs start going round threatening action over it then gets very murky for everyone.
Don't think so. Arsenal did.the £40m + £1 offer that supposedly triggered a clause in his contract. Suarez said afterwards that Gerrard convinced him to stay for one more year.
Around £15m for Morton. Decent deal that. Decent player there but needs to go play football at this age now.
Let’s hope the Isak saga can go to one side for now and hope LFC focus on a CB now as it’s more pressing than a CF
I wasn't saying it didn't or doesn't happen elsewhere i was simply stating that that was one of the reasons claimed as to why our Governor was hacked off with Liverpool. As an aside I do think its something that should be stopped but realise that is easier said than done. Stronger control and penalties on Agents would be a start. And as far as I am aware there is a difference with Wissa who is said to have had an agreement with Brentford that they agreed he would be sold this window. One assumes there would have been more specifics than that eg price/price range but I don't know. Brentford are said to have gone back on that agreement which is why Wissa is said to have gone on strike.
I think it works for clubs though. As much as it pisses people off when selling, all clubs do it when buying so just have to take the pros with the cons. Much like agent fees, it’s easier for clubs to pay them then it is to force players to do it. Hard to know with Wissa, clearly doesn’t have a release clause and with Mbuemo gone, flekken gone and manager gone can see why they want to keep him. A gentleman’s agreement is just that - also reported that Isak has an agreement would get new deal but then the higher ups left and he’s been stuck on his ‘lowly’ 120k deal since then - albeit now reports Newcastle offering new deal with release clause but seems like trying to shut the stable after the horse has bolted there.
3 years left on deal. Wages that are not unsustainable. Digging heels in for 150mil is one thing. Saying absolutely no deal because you did what we do all the time is another.
Didn't Isak claim that Newcastle reneged on a promise? Not about a move, although I think I read that he wanted to leave last year and was talked into staying by said 'promise'. I'm aware this is speculation but wondered what is being said from your side about broken promises.
Can anyone remember any player that we've deemed not for sale in a window who we went on to sell in the same window?
of course we have contacted Isak ,via representatives , before making a bid to see if he would move to us just like every other club does
TBH I can’t fully remember but memory says that we were looking to get him signed to a new contract early last season. There were I believe some discussions where it became evident that he was asking for more than we could afford but can’t remember any specific figures being mentioned. Contract talks were then shelved until it was clarified whether we would get into Europe and, if so, which competition. No suggestion of whether Isak agreed that or was unhappy about that. We should have moved more quickly once CL was confirmed but at that time we were still looking to replace our CEO (current one leaving and has been for 10 months as has cancer) which is just being reported this week that a new one has been found and our D of F (who seems to have been a waste of space in the year he was here including being the one to suspend talks with Isak) has left very recently and also this week a new one has been found. No claims for NUFC having broken any specific promise or agreement with Isak which I’m sure would have been more vocally mentioned if that had been the case as opposed to a yes we’ll talk about a new, improved contract. Bottom line, as usual, we will never know.
Imo we are. Here's a bid, No? Oh right you think he's staying? You think someone else is giving you that? Hmmm, maybe you should have a think. We'll be back soon.
A lot of people compare football to a real job (I have never agreed with this in the first instance but that’s a lengthy discussion lol) I think simply agents should be removed from the game (I know it won’t happen) Entertainment has agents but that’s sort of it I know it can’t happen but football is no longer a sport is 95% business now (no idea where I get 95 from btw lmao) I think these only thing you can do is jack in supporting pro clubs and get down to your local local game it’s sad really
