My issue is I don't think he is particularly competent at this level, especially towards the top of the league.

I don't think any other side with ambitions of promotion would be interested in signing him. And they'll all be hoping we make him first choice.

Once one of them has a howler, oh and they will. The crowd will get edgey, and that's no good for anyone. New number 1, Bazunu, and McCarthy the senior number 3 (Which let's face it, he qualifies as) is how I want us to be.

    Re: The Goalie issue
Last time we were in the Championship we did struggle with Bazunu as our number one.
Arguably, we only gained promotion due to the fact Bazunu got injured and McCarthy stepped in and did a much better job.
Baz has age on his side and I would love to see him establish himself as a reliable goalkeeper for us, but not at the expense of us getting stuck in the Championship. I wasn't thrilled about Bazunu/ McCarthy as our choices last time round so I'm certainly not this time (if it stays like this).

It's a weird one though, as much as I would like another goalkeeper, there's other positions that are of a higher priority for me; the midfield needs a lot of attention - especially if/when Fernandes and Dibbling go.
Ideally we can sort out midfield and get an experienced goalkeeper on loan.

I thought Everton were f*cking broke. Last year everyone was saying if they went down they'd be screwed, because of the new stadium etc? Did they get new rich owners or something?

Yeah got bought out last season. Owners allegedly looking to spend a fair bit this summer with the move to the new stadium and a fresh start

Yes we need to do a lot of work still in midfield and we have **** all creativity in the team. And if Fernandes and Dibling leave we'll have even bigger holes to fill. But that shouldn't stop us from also getting a GK. We are a big club with a lot of money for this league and have had the whole summer plus however long towards the end of the season when Spors came in to get our ducks in a row and Ramsdale was always 99% likely to leave.

I’d expect a lot of turnover this month tbh. Can quite easily see another 6 or 7 leaving and maybe the same amount coming in when you add in loans. Would’ve been nice to get it done earlier but it’s just not realistic

I agree! Just have seen several times from different people the idea that they would rather we sort out midfield and creativity over bringing in a new no.1. I'm just saying there's no reason it has to be one over the other! And we should be focusing on all areas of the pitch that need improvement. Loans were vital to us brining in quality and depth last time, and should be utilised once again if the club have any sense.

I honestly wouldn't mind Alex as number one, definitely rate him higher than Bazunu.

I'd prefer a new keeper but if funds are tight think it'd be spent better outfield. Perhaps a loan could be worthwhile?

I've got this horrible sinking feeling that Bazunu chucks one in against the skates to give them an undeserved equaliser.

On the goalie situation, I’d rather see us spend the money on attacking areas. We have struggled year on year to get a solid attack together and we still win games if we score more than we concede each game!!

I don’t think funds are that tight personally. Take away the fee’s we’ve received, we’ve also cleared around £15 million in wages with two of the biggest earners in Ramsdale and Bednarek moving on. Thinks there’s only a couple more players on £50k plus in Aribo and Armstrong.

There will be more departures and of course we will have a significant drop of money coming in this season, so sales are inevitable unfortunately, and that is mainly going to come from the players with the higher values and interest.

But we definitely need a GK as we only have 2 senior and a lad who’s just signed his first professional contract, who presently would be GK 3.

Think it went down as an own goal in the end but I'm still counting it.

Same as in my book Jason Dodd scored directly from a corner against the skates in 2003.

I would absolutely take back JWP. But I think Potter likes him.

I've always advocated having a good, competent, reliable and consistent GK at the base of the spine since the days of Shilton and neither Baz or Macca are good enough imo. The defence generally is better when they have confidence in their keeper and the whole team in general is more confident if they are not leaking soft goals. Get one in on loan if we have to but definitely get a new starting number one.

I’m old school. Get a good spine & you’re 80% there. GK, CB, DM & CF. Simples. Edit: I’m not sure about any of ours.

Depends on how the deal is structured, player swaps are very rare. Considering JWPs value and current wages I think I’d rather just the cash for Fernandes if he is going to West Ham
