I wish I could do the morning shift mate I’m too lazy! Sets you up nicely for the day I bet. Normally bath my daughters around 6:30pm then get them ready for bed and my partner puts them to bed as I’m heading out so I’m lucky like. But if I didn’t I’d probably end up just lazing about on the sofa watching football (when the season starts anyway) and having a beer then looking around the cupboards torturing myself because I can’t eat any of the sweets or biscuits :emoticon-0102-bigsm:emoticon-0102-bigsm

Im lucky to have quite an active job. I tend to average around 12,000 steps a shift so on top of the steps i do outside of work i usually do around 20k steps a day so thats my cardio sorted.
On top of that i train at the gym 3 times a week. My main aim when i was younger was to lift as heavy as i possibly could and grow as much muscle as i could, but now im getting older i like to just go to maintain the muscle ive got and to always be able to have a reasonable level of strength...

I piled loads of weight on about 18 months ago when i got myself into my rut. I stopped going to the gym, drank most days and my diet was shocking. I feel ashamed when i see old pics of myself from last year and never ever want to get that low and punish myself like that physically and mentally ever again.

It doesn't take long to really get yourself out of shape. For me it was the kids and routine. Just used it as an excuse really. Piled the weight on. Now it's time to lock in and just sort **** out basically.

    And that's fine. It's a week or 2. Not a lifestyle.

I swim once a week 30-40 minutes. When shifts allow I’ll do Parkrun, otherwise I’ll get out and pound the tarmac. I also get out on the bike once a week as well generally anywhere between 40-70km. If the shifts align me and Mrs K go for a slow ride around the local lake.
We’ve also joined a gym so I’ve been doing HIT, high intensity training by all accounts, although I’ve only done it twice. I reckon I look like a demented chicken when I’m doing it. I’m sure I’ll get better at it.
I’ve done a fair few long distance triathlons although the last one was in 2019. I’ve got a half marathon coming up in October, but my days of getting a fast time are long gone; I’ll just be happy to get round without embarrassing myself.
Not bad I think for a lad who’s 60 next year.

Beast that mate. I couldn't even get round a half marathon me. I just lift heavy stuff haha. Saying that, with dropping weight I have noticed my powers are depleting!

I had surgery on my ankle 2 years ago which also fecked me up and was probably the start of my decline.
Your right it takes months and months of hard graft to get in decent shape, and you can lose it all within a couple of months.

A decent diet is more important as the work you put in at the gym i think.
Its pointless smashing the gym everyday if your not eating the right food.

One of the Nottingham lads, Steve from Boldon, decided he really needed to get properly fit again.

He ordered a multi-gym and had it delivered ...

... put his back out, assembling it in his garage, and was off work for 6 weeks <laugh>

Still haven’t been seen by a physio mate. Appointment at Houghton next week. Bruising for the first week was horrid though.

Great thread Prehab26, needed a little motivation to kick-start losing some weight. Im 14 4 and would like to get down to 12st. Looking after my mother with dementia is tiring and has curtailed a lot of my free time... they used to say at work make sure you get your work life balance right. At 62, and retired nearly 5 years, you would have thought I'd managed to lose a few pounds. I've probably adopted a lazy lifestyle, so thank you all for your comments, and I'll try and use this to energise my life again.

Started swimming in January, purely breaststroke, crawl was fairly impossible with the breathing techniques. Got up to 3 times a week but it’s not easy with a 57 year old groin.
5 weeks ago I bit the bullet and now do no less than 1k front crawl and do a mile once a week. 3 sessions and I’m loving it more than I ever loved weight training. Got a swim watch coming Sunday and hopefully it helps with a training plan as I wouldn’t mind doing open water next year.
