Never dawned on me but a mate reckons she knows who's cutting the ribbon on the Keel Crossing ...

... I guessed Bob Murray and Quinn so I've only one guess left before I have to fork out a tenner.

    Anyone know?

Why hasn't this been mentioned, it's a major project ...

... surely they'll have Sam Fender, Sarah Millican, Phil Brown or someone else from Shields <laugh>

Le Bris highlights statement of intent with Xhaka signing

Régis Le Bris underlined the statement of intent from Sunderland following the arrival of the Granit Xhaka with the head coach relaying how the Swiss’ high standards will give everyone confidence for the upcoming Premier League campaign....

“I have to congratulate the people behind the scenes for completing the move. It makes a big noise and that is something we are looking to do this season.

“For the squad, it’s really important. We started our recruitment with talented young players but the second layer is to balance the squad with more experience. With what he has achieved in the game, Granit is really good for that.”

Amongst Xhaka’s outstanding skillset, the Swiss boasts a record of 225 Premier League appearances with the Gunners and 137 caps for his country, standing alone as his nation’s all-time appearance maker.

An iconic figure in the Premier League for seven years during his time in North London, Xhaka’s combative style of play combined with his composure on the ball and eye for a pass is a major addition on the pitch for the Head Coach.

Le Bris continued: “It’s really clear what he will bring to the squad. At the same time, his level his high. He brings many things for the balance of the squad. He’s a captain, a leader, has strong experience in the Premier League and the national team. This piece in our structure will be really important to balance the squad. We’re really happy.

“He’s still at top with a specific style of play so it’s really important to feel these pillars in our structure because it gives confidence to everyone for the Premier League.”

Sunderland’s seventh signing of the summer will link up with his new teammates later this week at the Academy of Light. Xhaka will wear the number 34 for the forthcoming Premier League campaign.

    He probably did !
Mind, he seems so unassuming, he probably gets a bit on edge when he has to pay the window cleaner!

    Keith Downie on Twitter:

Sunderland have reached agreement with Chelsea for striker Marc Guiu.
The 19yo has agreed to a season-long loan deal, as per our exclusive yesterday.
️Ex-Barca kid Guiu has been given the green light to travel to Wearside for a medical

Guiu will become #SAFC’s 9th signing of a very busy summer…and there’s more to follow

He’d have been in the arsenal juniors/iu21 when Xhaka was there I guess. Probably a bit of hero status!

Unimpressed by this one. Seems like we get less out of this deal than the other parties.

It’ll still be worth it if he does the business. I don’t mind the signing, wanted a more experienced head up top but that would cost serious money. We’ve got bigger priorities right now.

How many times, on1st August, have fans complained about signings (or lack thereof!)

Probably every season bar a handful for the past 30+ years!!
