Porro, Spence and Sarr with really good performances. Some less impressive, but getting one over the Goons is always a pleasure
First pre-season game I’ve managed to watch as not working today. Kudus was exciting and in the first half I thought we were the better team and deserved our lead. Tired in the last 20-25 but neither Arsenal nor us really looked like scoring, not sure either keeper had to make a significant save, though van de Ven should've buried his header. Porro probably MOTM for me.
Well that was a pleasant surprise, not seen anything other than the goal, and it's only pre-season but that has to be good for confidence and any win over them is worth having.
Just realised, no wonder we won - there was a trophy on the line. It’s what the Europa League Champions do, we all know that lot like a second place medal
Bit of a weird fixture to schedule as a pre-season game this one, as if it had gone badly it could really have soured the mood around the place (particularly as fans are already annoyed about a pretty stagnant transfer window). But I’d take beating that lot at literally anything, so it’s nice to win. And probably good to have a fixture played at higher intensity than a usual pre-season game too. I liked Odobert and Kudus on the wings, the latter in particular has looked really good this preseason and Wilson looked bright. We looked pretty solid and like we wouldn’t fall apart every time the opposition attacked, which is an improvement on much of the time under Ange. Feel like it hasn’t truly clicked in the final 3rd yet but we probably need more time on the pitch and in training for Frank to get it working. With some players coming back from injury/picking up knocks in training, and the likes of Odobert and Tel coming back late due to the youth tournaments, they’re all probably just a bit behind.
Thought we looked less kamikaze at the back, had more bite in midfield and looked good at times. Hitting the woodwork three times, Result means nothing in the big picture but you can see that there have been some tactical changes made to last season.
Not seen the match and despite this only being a pre-season friendly, it's promising that we can perform against Arsenal. PSG will be a good barometer before the season starts too!
