Seems ironic that with a transfer embargo we could end up with a good close season. Maybe Acun not have a free rein is a good thing. The new backroom boys, and the new manager, seem to be identifying more of the type of players we need. That alongside Sergei’s style of playing could lead to a much better season than we were all expecting not so long ago.
I think the best signing to date IS the manager personally, and I doubt he'll suffer fools in the changing room. I too am quietly looking forward to seeing what he can achieve here.
If they ignore the "club in crisis" rhetoric from the media and some of the fanbase, which they seem to be doing already, I hope they can surprise a few people and survive quite comfortably.
I'm saying from what I've seen of him so far he is impressive, whatever else you deduce from it is down to you.
Early days, but without going OTT, it looks promising, ie we might not be one of the three worst teams in the league!!!!
I'm enjoying the way the players are responding to his instructions, seems to be a real togetherness there. Quietly confident at this stage we can surprise a few.
I understand, I'm just saying it wasn't a high priority so as good as he is that's like Liverpool sacking Klopp and getting Pep. There were bigger priorities for the club.
So you would have been happy to keep Selles? the guy who just luckily kept us in the championship. Sergei seems to be getting more out of the same players.
Seen it suggested on Twitter that this transfer would owe a fee/compensation to Swansea. That allowed under the embargo or a breakthrough?
It's a good post Buck,I just hope that this settled looking squad isn't disrupted by swaggering big earners being brought in now...To me it's a careful balance?
just as good as our current manager is ie, its preseason and its completely unknown once competitive football starts
Hull City remain firmly in the race to sign striker Oli McBurnie and remain hopeful that they will be able to conclude a deal to sign the former Sheffield United star. In what has become something of a summer saga, City have been in talks with the Scotland international for the duration of the off-season and had hoped to wrap up a deal before now. Their difficulties with the transfer restrictions imposed on them by the EFL have hampered progress, and at one point, seemingly ended their hopes, but McBurnie himself has been taking time to weigh up his options. At the age of 29, his next move is a crucial one and he is therefore understandably keen to mull over the options at his disposal, which include former clubs United, Swansea City and now Ipswich Town amongst other potential suitors. Swansea are thought to have offered a three-year deal to their former 20-goal frontman, while City themselves are prepared to offer him a long-term, lucrative deal to entice him to the MKM Stadium and link up with former Blades teammates John Egan and, once confirmed, John Lundstram. Head coach Sergej Jakirovic believes the striker, who left Las Palmas at the end of the season following their relegation from La Liga, will fit perfectly into his system, making him a top target. Jakirovic set out his vision to the Leeds-born frontman earlier this summer when the pair had a zoom call, while it's understood Egan and Matt Crooks have both been doing their bit to make up his mind. Sporting director Jared Dublin remains in contact with McBurnie and his agent. "I would like to have Oli McBurnie," City's boss told Hull Live after Tuesday's victory over Sunderland. "He would bring everything that we need - leadership, experience, and he knows the Championship. Plus goals. I hope the goals; we need goals. I believe, yes (we can get it done). I believe that the EFL will help us." With the season curtain raiser just over a week away, McBurnie is edging towards decision time and the Tigers remain firmly in the hunt, and hope their persistence will pay off. Meanwhile, Enis Destan and Lundstram are both in Hull and expected to complete their moves to the club in the next 24 hours, once signed off by both clubs and the EFL.
Luckily? The guy that was snapped up by a side chasing promotion? Yeah I'd have been very happy to keep him. How the **** is Jakirovic getting more out of the players, we haven't played a competitive game yet.
