Tough luck, Bustino, but I’ve always felt that Goodwood suits an enterprising front runner. I remember particularly the ‘67 Sussex Stakes when Harry Wragg’s Supreme Sovereign shot well clear from the top of the hill. Fortunately for favourite backers, Reform had the class to get to him and surge past in the last 100 yards. Otherwise S.Sovereign would have been a clear winner. Unfortunately for Rosallion, he needed another few yards. As for Field of Gold, Gosden’s excuse of his horse being unbalanced sounds very lame, and it doesn’t show this year’s three year old colts in a very good light.
Think you are right about Goodwood being a front runners course. The Brigadier led all the way in '71, worth looking how he finished. No he was my pick for the 2000G and the Queen Anne too, so getting used to it.
