Well, at least one person north of the border will be making it down for some games, Ric.

And look at the pathetic crowds we were getting then for what would be a play off place now.

If wingers cutting inside now led to more goals it wouldnt really matter whether you went back 60, 70, 80 or 90 years if they werent cutting inside then.
Nowadays you see "wingers" cutting inside and then not knowing what to do with the ball.
Why do they favour crosses from corners if years ago players decided that going down the wing to the touchline and crossing wasnt effective?
Even when they try short corners they usually do it with the intention of creating an extra man or get a slightly more dangerous diagonal.
Rarely do they take a short corner and try to cut inside.

years ago teams would play with two strikers and crosses could be met by one striker who either headed for goal or headed to the other striker.
now most teams play with one striker who is more mobile but less likely to get to a cross

I think Jack Beaton went to Portsmouth at the end of last season.

It was dire at the start - and at the end. But there were some good times in between, under Don Robinson's ownership and Appleton and Horton as managers. For me it is not right to say that we were dire for most of that decade. Surely the 90's under Dolan, Hateley, etc. were worse.

Since I didn't miss a home game between 1975 and 1990 then yes I would have been there. After that I moved away due to work commitments and could only afford to go to 1 game a month until returning to the area in 2011

Indeed they were. What pissed me off in the 1980s was how badly we did with some of the players we had under Mike Smith and others.

That was our all time low league crowd until the Torquay game. The HDM printed a list of all time low crowds once and I realised I had been in 9 of them, the odd one out being one against Newport County before I started going, I can think of a couple on here who could say the same as well. Missed a couple later on due to work which took them into the top ten so have been in 7 of them. Strangely enough enjoyed some of them more than the “match day experience” these days. Maybe because you could all graduate together in the ground in those days. And age of course.<laugh>

There always seems to be a better atmosphere when there are fewer of us. Even last night was louder than most games where we get 20k plus, just for a friendly

At the final whistle, and for a good few minutes after, there were as many City fans left applauding the players efforts as at a league match. :emoticon-0138-think

Just watched the highlights on YouTube & I have to say that Joseph looks a fresh player playing through the centre. I won’t go OTT about a friendly, but if he plays like that this season then he’ll get a good few assists as well as goals. He looks like a strong player who can hold the ball up, although the highlights are literally just that, highlights & not very long.
Abu’s goal was similar to his missed chance on the first half, so I think that’s what we’ll see from him in terms of shooting this season.
One negative that really stood out was the stupid short goal kick that almost cost us a goal, same thing on Saturday. We simply can’t be doing that in games.
Hopefully they learn when & when not to take risks at the back.
That kid from Man City looked decent from his chance at the end, might be an exciting prospect. I might be eating my words about a kid that no one wants if he keeps that up.
