They’ve spent about £100m this window so far so they aren’t skint. They just didn’t want to pay the fee we wanted for Alcaraz. Nobody did in the end that’s why we sold him for like £15m or whatever it was. They might view Fernandes differently.

I honestly don't get this. Edozie didn't have a half decent season last year. Sulemana didn't. Onuachu didn't. Lumley didn't. And none of them were particularly effective teh season before either. We are cutting the cloth as we should have done before - the squad is massively bloated - and we are actually getting half decent fees too.

That will allow more incomings - and the money we've spent on Quarshie already looks good value to me from what I've seen.

We'd all have liked Ramsdale to stay but he wants to play in the PL, and keeping players on £100k wages in the championship is not financially prudent and means either an immediate return or bust.

I've been critical of SR in the past but this is what needed to happen this window and so long as we get the right fees for players, I'm pretty sure we'll have a squad ready to compete come September 1 (I would have loved it to be sooner but that's the way the market is for all clubs)

Shame. Maybe this is in response to him getting itchy feet. We can hope.

Yeah we don’t need to replace Bednarek. We can still get rid of ABK and one other without needing to bring another CB in.

Oooh! I see what Saints have done now; lock Stephens on a longer contract and sell him in the same transfer window for more money, masterstroke! In Sports Republic we trust.

Maybe they’re expecting one of THB or Wood, to leave in this window, and I think Sanda will go out on loan. I don’t even count or think about ABK anymore.

He will probably have to sign it or he might fall out of a hotel window on holiday or be killed in a 'robbery' that went wrong.

Yeah, fair to discount ABK completely. And agree on Sanda and wasn’t considering him either.
Still currently leaves us with Stephens, THB, Edwards, Quarshie and Wood with Taylor and Bree having played in a 3 plenty too. Seems like we’ll mostly play a back 4 though which maybe makes a Taylor exit more likely. I see Wood as likely the 5th choice CB so not sure we’d replace him either, but if THB does go then yeah we’d probably want to replace.

I’d expect THB to leave on a loan with an option on the last day of the window so the new club will start paying his wages as late as possible. Loan with option I think will mean he could also move even if still injured at the close of the window

And then one of Wood and Edwards might go. Edwards might attract a big bid that is difficult to turn down. And wasn’t there rumours of Wood being unsettled ?

Good result for Rangers in Europe tonight. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/live/c4g6e9e3ev7t#Rangers

Looking at their squad in a position of relative ignorance, I'd suggest players like Fraser and Aribo won't be far from their thinking at the moment and if they qualify for champions league proper they may even look at an Arma or Stewart type and might turn a few heads. We know Martin likes to look at former players.

THB is very 50/50 in my mind whether he will stay or go. He's been out injured a while, he wasn't very good in the PL last season and we paid £20m for him just a year ago so would probably be looking for £30m which I'm not convinced anyone would pay. I doubt we let him go out on loan unless he kicks up a big fuss which tbf he might. We also don't internally work to the actual transfer deadline with regards the players we want to keep so can't see us letting anyone like THB go on the last day.

Don't remember reading about Wood being unsettled, but I do think as he's likely 5th choice we would let him go if he was. I'd be surprised if any club offered enough to tempt us into selling Edwards. I know we only signed him for £3m but I get the impression we see his potential with us as worth a lot more than that. He's still pretty new to the Championship and hasn't played in a team at the top end yet. Have a good season with us, get promoted (hopefully) and his value will jump.
