There’s no player we could sign right now upfront that would realistically make you all comfortable at where the goals are coming from. A goal tally doesn’t guarantee it
Until the window closes the bookies odds aren't too accurate ... Burnley were quoted as way ahead of us, then we were level and that was before Xhaka ... ... at the moment no one could put their house on it , things are looking better all the time but there are still a few leaks in the roof.
Agree. Mind I’m kinda surprised that we’ve gone in with a loan this early. Must mean they’re really keen on Guiu. There’s a decent chance that some surprises are available near the end of the window. And we could afford to go into the first few games with what we’ve got imo.
Honestly, a centre forward who can lead the line and create space and opportunities for Mayenda and out other players and get 10+ goals is what we need. Someone who can change things up when needed CB and RB needed as well And has anyone seen anything about a GK called Robin Roefs? Saw some article that we've bid 12m, but can't be arsed reading through 300+ posts on here since last night
Roefs will be all but announced mate, did well to catch it in the million posts as we moved on too quick
Out of Interest, I looked up what wage Marc Guiu is on, apparently he turned down £50k a week from Barcelona and went to Chelsea as they were offering him between £90k and £110k a week - Nobody is signing that amount of wages and having them sitting on a bench, wherever he goes, he is surely expected to be first choice
I don't really agree with the premise of your argument there as we won't want to pay the full salary... although chelsea signed him on that salary to be sat on the bench so not everyone anyway
Generally very positive, standout keeper at the under 21 euros for netherlands and viewed as the future first choice of the national team. Hes a big lad who commands his area and at least in the dutch league proved to have really convincing distribution with some passes through the lines to start quick attacks. Lot of people and me included have some reservations about having such a young lad in goal, whos only really played one first team season - but suppose if he was a proven thing then he wouldn't be coming here for 12m as he looks like hes going to the very top, someone had to take that punt.
Paying that amount of wages to sit on a bench and not own them is different to having £40m? worth of talent sitting there and knowing you could cash in. Top clubs will have more than that sitting on the bench I'm sure but to agree a loan and they're not first choice, that's crazy
Thats why chelsea won't get exactly what they demand, full wage, no option to buy etc. doesn't really work for the loaning team. If however it was a full wage then you could certainly assume its to be first choice yea
You could also argue that buying someone, on £100k a week, on a 5 year deal, is a big risk ... ... besides no one has actually signed and perhaps no one will. What Chelsea want isn't necessarily what they'll get.
Completely softens the blow when you’re not paying an upfront fee though, he will definitely get minutes but so will Wilson and mayenda, there’s plenty games in the season
A purchase could mean the end of a promising player, like Mayenda or Isidor ... ... a loan gives everyone a breathing space which I like the sound of. Hoying all your eggs in one basket can mean you get scrambled rather than sunny-side-up
