Imo,the position revolves around whether he's able to make the step up.Mind you, that's the same for all these players from last season. The difference is the contract situation.Apart from Denis, the others all have contracts for another 2 or 3 years.....not sure about Huggins, but his injury has affected that,no doubt. It comes down to whether Dan can play in the PL.....do we think he can?....does he think he can?
We will never know what the true story is here with Neil but I hope it’s resolved soon for all parties. For me we should keep him, we don’t want too much upheaval and damage the togetherness of the squad and I think Neil can play at this level. Same with Patto, we need another keeper to compete with him but we shouldn’t let him go. There’s going to be enough players going out without letting some of last years starters leave as well. Especially those local lads!
There is no doubt the club want to keep him. They have offered him, significantly improved terms. If he leaves it's down to Neil thinking he can do better.
I would cum if we had a link with Basel, with Xhaka being their manager in time. They're great at signing and producing young talent, feels like they've fell off lately, maybe we can help.
Most of the players we expect to leave were nowhere near the first team squad last season. Agree about keeping the lads who've grown up with us,but only if they're good enough to play at the top level, which is where we are now.Dan may want a PL contract, but we may not feel he's a PL player. Fwiw,I feel a move to somewhere like Derby would be an excellent opportunity for him.
He won’t want to drop down to the championship but I can’t really see him getting game time in the PL. I think a European move personally.
Dan Neil has kind of shafted himself a bit really. Had he signed earlier we might not have signed as many centre mids as we have. As it is he hasn't signed a new deal and now has Le Fee, Diarra, Sadiki and Xhaka to deal with, with the club only having sold Jobe in the same position.
