We already have a senior goalkeeper, who should be 3rd choice, McCarthy. We need a new number one. Matt Ryan on a free from Stills old club would be perfect.
Bazunu as number one and Jack Stephens as captain. We’re building a strong spine which the supporters will get behind
Bazunu or McCarthy in goal will suffice until we bring in another GK (presumably a loan) before the window shuts.
We will need to bring in a GK, 2 isn’t enough. If we bring in a 3rd choice instead of a 1st choice GK then it’s just another in the long long list of SR not learning from their very obvious mistakes.
Yes. This. Or we bring in someone like Matt Ryan for some leadership and steadyness. Give Baz a short leash and then McCarthy is out of contract next season anyway I think. It's not a hopeless situation to be in. But I wouldn't want some one like Meslier at all. Needs to be someone who brings with them confidence and authority.
Mat Ryan would make a lot of sense. Was the Lens #1 for WS last season, is still a free agent at present... 33 years old, so put him on a 1yr/2yr deal and then when McCarthy leaves on a free in 2026 you potentially have Ramsdale, Ryan, Bazunu, or if not you go out and get a PL goalkeeper again
I've gone down a GK rabbit hole but another who might make sense is Matt Turner. Battling to be US number 1 in WC year, not first choice at Forest.
A lot of the reactions are ss if Saints will have been caught by surprise at Ramsdale leaving, They’ll have a plan. That plan might be Bazunu. It might be bringing someone new in. Either way I trust them enough to be confident it’s not only just starting to be worked on this evening
They shouldn’t have been blindsided by Ramsdale leaving, it’s just a loan doesn’t feel ideal in bringing someone else in. I’m fine if they want to go with McCarthy/Bazunu as the options then re-assess next season, but based on opinion on here most wouldn’t be happy with that. Someone like Ryan makes sense on a short term deal, just depends if he wants that. Any perm signing will surely have the potential of Ramsdale coming back on their mind
The option to buy means he probably won’t be back. He’s a good keeper and will do well at Newcastle. Less practice picking the ball out of his net.
Agree, but whilst it’s only an option there is the possibility that it doesn’t work out for him there. If you put in an obligation or just sold him then if the club wants to sign a new keeper it gives them a lot more options I think. Now it feels like if a new keeper comes in it’s either a loan or an older keeper for a season, or obviously sticking with the two keepers who got us promoted last time
I had a feeling you'd prefer muppets even though I can't see the resemblance myself. I had a listen to his interview with Adam Blackmore expecting the worst after what you said about him "not being able to string a sentence together". I think you are being a bit unfair on WS to be honest magic, he's not exactly charismatic but it's not the worst interview I've heard. It's good you are setting your stall out early though. Main Ipswich reporter is now saying Wrexham close to signing Nathan Broadhead for £7.5m after reaching agreement with ITFC tonight Seems like a lot for someone out of contract in 2026 but that’s just me…
