Thought I’d start a new thread on Dogs having seen Irish Black Cats sad news about the passing of his dog recently on the Summer Transfer thread. Unless you’re an animal lover or dog person, it’s very difficult to understand the bond that you build up with a dog. With people you can communicate verbally and tell them your feelings. With a dog it’s all done through their relationship with you, through looks, loyalty, their trust in you and their love for you. When you look into a dog’s eyes you see right into their soul. We’ve got an 8 year old Boxer and he is brilliant. A big strong boy and quite keen when he is out and about but he is the softest most loving dog you could wish to meet. The greeting we get when we come home is special. He’s a good house dog as well as he tends to be a bit suspicious of people coming to the house, so the delivery drivers don’t hang around long once they’ve knocked on the door and heard him barking and looking out of the window. We’ve had Springer Spaniels in the past and they are great fun, but if you’ve never had a Boxer - get one you won’t be sorry. They tend to be quite lively and time consuming but they are worth if you can afford to put the effort in with them. here’s a photo of him
I love these threads and seeing other people’s pets. Unfortunately on May 8 2022 we had to say good night to our fluffy boy, a Siberian Husky that we called Chaos. He was just over 12 years old. Here he is in his prime Then, when we lived in England we had a black cat, Emily. We got her around three months after Mrs K and I were married in 1993. We had Emily for 11 years. She went out one day and never came back. We believe she had been run over. I don’t mind admitting I was devastated. Here she is.
I like all dogs -all shapes and sizes, but I do prefer bigger dogs. They got a bit of something about them. Our son and Daughter in Law have a 3 year old Cocker Spaniel bitch and she is a sweetheart, but she is like a human being. Mind you, as she is a female she is as crafty as they come and has everyone wrapped around her paw! We also had a cat - a Somali - he looked like a little fox. He went out one day and got knocked over and we got a call from the Vets to tell us what'd happened, but it was too late. 15 months old he was. The whole family was devastated. That night, lying in bed thinking about what had happened and an Owl landed on our bedroom window sill, turned its head round and looked in the room and flew off again. Never happened before or since. Spooky really but we were sure it was a sign from him.
I’ve never been fortunate enough to have a boxer, but my mate has one and he’s as mad as a box of frogs (the dog, not him), so much energy and enthusiasm for life. Possibly intimidating if you aren’t a dog person, but it’s absolutely harmless. I’d put money down on a Turkish Kangal but because of my health, I’ve had to let that one go. I’m hoping that next year, all going well, I can resume my love affair with them. I’ll be going for the same breed. Fascinating dogs.
That sounds like our Lad. When I take him out for walks I never feel intimidated by any dodgy looking characters. Rosco - the dog - sees them first and his ears prick up and he keeps an eye on them. I've known people cross the road rather than pass him, but he is absolutely fine. If I'm calm he is, but I think if I started shouting and getting agitated he would respond and get involved. It's never come to that and I hope it never does but I do feel safe with him by my side.. I'd never heard of a Turkish Kangal - but wow !! Just googled it and they are certainly big dogs. Good luck with your health and how it goes next year. Keep us posted
Our Mini Schnauzer, Dexter, left us just over 4 months ago. He was my wife's first ever pet.. He developed a limp on the Thursday, went off his food which was unusual as he was a right greedy twat. Anyway took him to the vets and he was diagnosed with an aggressive stomach cancer. Flash to bang was a week. The whole family were absolutely devastated, more so my wife. I firmly believe she loved him more than me A little piccie of our Dexter who i miss daily
We have 12 dogs and all live in the house. 2 greyhounds (one came from the Chinese meat market), 3 Galgos (Spanish greyhounds) rescued from the Spanish hunting scene where they are poorly kept and often hung from trees or down wells if they are no good, 2 rescued lurchers, I rescued deaf border collie, 1 deerhound and 3 deerhound/ borzois (over 50kg each). Don't seem to be able to post pics. Forgot about the 4 guinea pigs, 2 canaries and a tortoise
Good for you, I take my hat off to you. That's some commitment. Can't imagine how much it costs to feed them all and vets bills etc
Charlie is in my avatar! He's a brown border collie. Couple of more pics: please log in to view this image This is how he looks at me when I'm ignoring him and watching the football please log in to view this image
We have a boxeras well. Charlie, 7 and a half years old. He's our 3rd boxer and the most laid back boy you could ever wish to meet, he loves meeting people. He is so loving and makes us laugh everyday. I call him our 'human' dog as he seems to understand everything we say. He's very well behaved, unlike our previous boxer who ate my paper season ticket many years ago. He knows when we are talking about him as he pulls the most inquisitive faces you've ever seen. His greetings are second to none and he is more than happy when he has his ball and is with us on walks.
Brill thread. I have a springer bitch. She used to be my best friend, now she is my arch enemy. Woke me up last night barking at nothing. No need. In all seriousness I love dogs. Always have. So bloody loving. Also got fish. I love fish. Got a tropical setup in my office at home. Got a pond in my garden. I swear the pond fish recognise me. They all come over when I appear. Anyone else, much less so. All my fish named after ex footballers, not that they seem to realise.
He’s a beaut, and is the double of our Rosco. And an even bigger coincidence is that Rosco’s nickname is Chops …. and everyone calls him that more than they call him Rosco!
Our neighbour had a boxer and I remember when we met in the field, when we had our last chocolate lab, her saying that the boxer was a bit boisterous and might bound into our dog and even knock her over, but it was all in play. That's fair enough I said, Millie quite liked a bit of boisterous play herself. Every time he bounced into Millie she'd just lean into it and he'd end up the one going flying. She must have decided this was fun, and kept it up the whole walk. The boxer couldn't wait to get away . She was useless as a guard dog though. We got burgled whilst she was in, and they just threw some food on the floor to keep her distracted. She'd have opened the door for them if they showed her a sausage. Our current dog Ruby is the exact opposite. She'd submit to a chihuahua if we met in the field, but if anyone comes to the door she sounds ferocious.
The last girlfriend (before the current one) had a Rottie, what a big softy she was, my grandson used to ride on her back. But I did mention to her if I was walking her down the street, people would cross to the other side of the road. She said thats because of you not the dog!
