At last!! Talk about constipation over this! Well chuffed!! Eze the final piece of transfer business and this will be our best summer transfer season for years!
I am hoping for the best. TBH, Havertz has 42 G+A for the club in a season and a half. If Gyokeres does similar, i will be happy enough.
I am buzzing right now !!! Absolutely buzzing. For all the negative Nellie's out there complaining that the Portuguese league isn't strong and he didn't do well in the Championship, he got voted in the team of the Championship, so he can't have been that bad and if the Portuguese league was so weak why don't we see lots of players scoring ridiculous numbers of goals there regularly ?
Let me head off another dead argument, he doesn't score many headed goals, well, in the last 2 seasons he scored 1 or 2% fewer headed goals from his total goals than Isak and I didn't see anyone complaining that Isak didn't score enough headed goals !
I don't think anyone said he was bad in the Championship. He was good - a 1 goal in 2.5 games guy. Not prolific, but good enough. You can't discount the weakness of the Portuguese league. It is truly awful and has had a well documented decline in the last 4-5 years. 14 of the 18 clubs have the resources of League 1 teams and the support of League 2/Non league clubs in the UK. My worry is that it is far more likely that he went from 20 goals for Coventry in the Championship to being prolific, the very next year in Portugal, purely because of the weakness of the opposition he was playing, rather than some improvement to his game. I am keeping my fingers crossed on Gyokeres, as a new signing he deserves full support.
I get this, but he's proved it over multiple seasons. When you look at other players (e.g. Darwin Nunez, Islam Slimani etc), they only had one standout season. Gyokeres' numbers have been fantastic over a sustained period of time and they're simply too good to not take a punt on. Additionally, his record in Europe and at International level is strong too. 11 goals in 17 appearances in Europe, 15 goals in 26 appearances for Sweden (which is significantly better than Isak's record - 16 goals in 52 appearances). Gyokeres has done everything that can be asked of him under the circumstances. Now it's time to see whether he can do it in the Premier League. And whilst I am sure his numbers won't be as good as they were for Sporting, I am still confident he will be a 25 goal a season striker for us.
Yep this He just looks like a goal machine With the service we provide him, he should be getting way more chances than he was at Sporting That said, he's up against much better teams and defences But I'd expect him to be banging them in for us tbh.
Another good thing about signing Gyokeres is that I was worried loosing Partey and adding a more technical midfield would diminish some of the sides physicality - but Gyokeres re-address that balance. He's big brute of a CF.
Exactly this, its not just his record in the Portuguese league thats good, his numbers in the CL and for Sweden back up the fact his domestic form isn't localised.
And this is the thing, you don't score 90 odd goals in 90 odd games if you don't know how to hit the back of the net !! Seeing the likes of scuff master Nketiah drag shots wide and hit the keeper annoyed the hell out of me. Havertz in a one on one you wouldn't put your house on it that he would score, for a CF thats terrible and his shooting is as weak as Nketiah's. As for Jesus, just as likely to miss the target altogether than hit it, his shooting tekkers are terrible. These players could never score the volume of goals Gyokeres has even if they payed in the Portuguese league, in fact I doubt they would score more than they do in England.
