Nah But they need to get on with training and ease off on the experimentation after the tour is done. It's.fine to do a lot of thst but the squad is now very much in flux.
Can't say I've ever seen a pre-season that isn't about experimentation - it's what it's for. Also, if we ever need to see the difference between a team giving its all and one that's not so fired up we only have to think back to last season after the title was won.
Tbf, much as this playing a full back at CB when we're trying to break the deadlock or desperately need an equaliser thing is driving me nuts, now really is the time to experiment. Today we confirmed that Rio should be in the 1st team squad. We saw that even in desperate times, Tsimi, especially, is garbage at CB. And I thought Morton was not bad at all. No concerns at all, but we need to pick a back 4 and start getting them used to each other now, but here's a wild card - let's try Frimpong at #6.
It's all about fitness, always as been and always will be. ATM, our players all look like they're running in quick sand whist towing a caravan.
Playing tsimikas at cb wasn’t an experiment it was a needs must. Gomez back home. Vvd and konate doing a half each so we at least have 1 cb during each half. Wasn’t about seeing who could do what, was just about giving every 45 minutes. Also I’m not sure if serious about Frimpong at 6 but the guy is about explosiveness, pace and beating players. Putting him in the 1 place where that isn’t needed would make zero sense
We dont know how many sessions they did in the day of that game do we? I do know we have thus far not put the first 11 together once. I'd expect our objective on tour is to work hard and so the commercial and then get home for finishing school. The two home games ought to be huge opportunities to put it together. If for example we trained in the morning and then did a session before the game then having rolling subs in a friendly makes sense.
We're not going to have the same strong start to the season we had last year. I know everyone is predicting us for the title but I think we will have a slow start and only win the title of no one has a great start. I think the season after the next one we might win
A no6 is like the 400m runner of the team - or should be. The hardest track event of all because it requires sprinting and endurance, even more than the no8 position. He has the speed to do the interceptions and surges upfield. He can tackle, obviously, but the only thing I'd doubt in comparison to, say, Fab is his first touch and passing range. I'm not saying he doesn't have that, just that I haven't really seen it yet in 2 45-minute camoes. But yeah, I'd try him there. Makes more sense than trying 5'8" one-footed fullbacks at CB anyway.
