I must admit I wasn't aware that there was a problem with the installation of the new pitch.

    Just typical of CAFC.
We get the football right for once (to the extent of gaining promotion) and something else goes wrong <doh>

By the time England play Wales, it's possible both teams could already be out of the competition.

Out-classed in the end, but they did their best.
The Welsh still have something to play for though - they would dearly love to knock England out of the Euros if they can battle an unlikely victory against us in their last group game.

England topping their group at half time.

Apparently if they win the group, England's women play Germany in the Quarter-Finals, and probably Spain in the Semi, if they get past the Germans.
Still, if they do win the competition nobody can say they had an easy route to the Final.

Well done to England for scraping through to the Women's Euro's semi-Finals.
A spirited second half scrap against a Sweden side that looked very slick in the first half.

But the penalty shoot-out was embarrassing. Totally pot luck.
Hey ho, that's how it goes sometimes. They're still in it.
    Italy next I believe...

I'm glad the England women's team wont's be taking the knee before games anymore.
I know many of those who did it or support it do so for the right reasons, but it was never any more than a comfortable, ineffective gesture.
Anti-racist action must have an effect.

Well England have got to the Final. Credit to them for that.

But I fear they will come up short (presumably against Spain).
Still, they've done what they can.

    <cracker> :emoticon-0171-star: Well done the Lionesses :emoticon-0171-star: <applause> <magic>

European Champions, and our first Trophy won on foreign soil.
Great news for Women's Football in this Country. May it go from strength to strength.
And I hope the benefits spread beyond the Elite few teams who dominate the WSL. That would be the best outcome of all.

    I’m not so sure.

without wanting to be patronising, the quality of the football was awful, the tournament was tepid at best amd a very average and underserving team won.

You can’t sell that product to the masses. It’s far too inferior and boring

Elite WSL attendances are better than those at some mid-table Premier League men's games.
My only real concern is that too much money is staying at the very top of the women's game, as it does with men's football.

Why does something that is good for women's football apparently have to be seen as bad for men's football?
Or even as a threat to it?
I'm not saying you have said that here @Typical part 2 but it is an impression I get from much of the critical coverage of women's football.
What is so harmful about the women's game that so many people don't have a single good word for it?

I've watched three or four of the Euros games. The quality of the football was not 'awful' in my opinion.
Granted it was not as good as the very best of the male players, but in my view that isn't grounds to disregard the entire sport.

Not being taken seriously is one of the most pernicious ways that any group's desire for equality is undermined.
It makes no difference to me if female players will never be bought or sold for £100m, or earn £500k per week.
Those are not good or admirable features of the men's game in my view. They only help to distort and corrupt it.

This is one of the reasons I get so angry about Countries like Saudi Arabia and others in that region who are buying so much influence in Football these days, and are buying off people who should have something to say about it.
Those Nations frankly treat their women as if they are property.
I think it's a disgrace that they are awarded International tournaments. And that's not even to mention how atrociously they treat migrant workers, thousands of whom are maimed or killed building their Sportswashing infrastructures.
    However, I digress.

I don't see why women's football can't be accepted as part of a progressive, modern society where there is equality of opportunity for all.
I'm 100% with Ian Wright on this issue.
What - in short - are the naysayers afraid of?

It’s not evolved as a sport where I can appreciate the skill level.
Take tennis. Woman’s tennis is considered more skilled than men’s and I prefer watching it.

cycling and swimming are at a parity with mens sports . You can see the effort and skill.

but some sports do not translate and football is one of them.

I’m not being chauvinistic I just want to to see sport find an its natural level - and no matter how u badge that football it was a painful watch.

Fair enough, we all have different views naturally.
I'm just happy that the England women won the tournament.

There are those who say everything about the women's game should have parity with the men's game.
Equal pay, equal transfer values etc.
I don't believe that is realistic. Transfer fees and wages will find their own level based on customer demand. TV companies are not daft.

It is also true that nobody dismisses women's swimming or tennis just because speed records for women's swimming are not competitive with the men's records, or because women play 3 sets at the highest level while men play 5 sets.
But this modern state of affairs came about by a gradual process.
Women's tennis or swimming were not always accepted with due seriousness and respect as they are today.

I believe in future the vast majority of people will accept women's football for what it is. Not for vain attempts to make it exactly the same as men's football.

    Women's football is still evolving.
Chiefly because the men who ran the English FA banned it during the 1920's.
A shameful state of affairs that lasted fifty years.
It only became 'legal' for women to play Association Football in England within my own lifetime.
The FA reacted out of fear - because attendances at women's matches in the 1920's was rivalling or even overtaking the gates at men's games.
An attitude by the old-school-tie crusty farts of the FA straight from the Dark Ages, which I am now pleased to see has been ditched.
