Whats glaringly obvious is, like Seri before and Alzate, we have no one capable of collecting the ball just outside the arc and dictating where it goes next.
We’ve been a lot better since Kamara fluffed that chance. We force them into loads of mistakes, imagine we had 3 dynamic, physical midfielders…
Receiving the ball under pressure in your own third is incredibly difficult. It requires confidence and a really good first touch. I don’t think Slater can do it. Give him the ball higher up the pitch and he can turn and run but expecting him to do what Alzate does won’t work. On the brief occasions he does drop deep to receive the ball, he looks like he’s going to **** himself.
I said this when they wore them in Turkey. I’m not sure what’s causing it. It’s something you’d expect from a cotton t-shirt rather than a modern football kit made from synthetic material with moisture-wicking.
Yes, he's actively avoiding the ball, also them having Norwood in the same role showing Slater how it should be done is not helping. We still haven't sorted the lazy disorganised press either, Stockport are working so much harder at it than we are.
Disagree the press has been good we just don’t have the personnel to do it consistently. We’ve won the ball back high up plenty of times
I think apart of it is tactical, Slater is meant to occupy the Stockport players while Palmer drops to take the ball. Not working well though.
