Yes, I like a bit of cricket. Just watching pre season game in Austria.

Town one up. Hirst scores a pen.

Enjoying game in Austria. Hirst scores twice, playing with Sammy Smodics up front. Humphreys playing well and staking a claim.

Town looking strong against a top team.

Ridiculous indirect free kick 5m from our goal line. Yellow cards everywhere.

2-1 Town. Stupid ref, nothing new!

New team 2nd half, blues on fire and Taylor & Ali Hamadi combine well to score. Hamadi is delighted.

3-1 Town. We will be too strong for most Champ sides.

A good outing but we can’t afford any injuries to CDM and ST positions. We have got to strengthen those.

Our full backs will play high a lot of the time in the Championship. Does he have the stamina?

I know he’s on a free, he’s 40 yrs old though, I don’t see what he’d bring to the table. You’ve been promoted from the division your players have the experience, maybe he is just cheap cover for Leif

I imagine this is a deal with an eye for him to be part of our coaching set up. McKenna has previously coached him at Manchester United - where he’s got a record bringing former players and coaches there to work with him. Young is somebody that would set high professional standards and has a wealth of top flight experience. He’d be a good voice and influence on the dressing room, I would imagine.

I’m not sure if he offers a significant improvement on the playing side. At 40, he’s not going to be a regular starter over a 46 game season. Having said that, he played 36 odd times for Everton last season. He has played right back, more often than not, which is an area where we could benefit from a higher level of competition. Sounds like the deal is further away than what was reported this morning, however, so might not happen. I’d rather we targeted someone younger (who could be more of a long term solution at right back in the Premier League, if that’s not asking for too much)! But I can see the value he’d have around the dressing room.

As an aside, are you happy with Leeds’ transfer business so far? I think your scouts are also keeping on eye on our forum, as you’re definitely targeting physical tall players (and yes ptc, they’ve all been over 6 foot :emoticon-0105-wink:).

We started off slowly but hopefully smart, three of the first four signings were either out of contract or final year so we got them cheaply.

Then Longstaff, a huge chunk of experience and a solid 7/10 performer each week and Anton Stach, an absolutely awesome signing if he brings the same attributes to the PL

Paxaio we’ve lost out on, gutted about that one, yes happy but feeling the next 2-3 in are crucial

Ashley Young deal confirmed. Presume Tyler will also sign soon.
Undeniable experience, Everton fans suggesting he could have coped with the premier league for one more season. Seems to be a signing with a lot of positives we can spin, can't quite avoid the whiff of the "dad's army" signings during the previous regime though...

Brought in for valuable leadership, experience and yes, maturity. With Morsy gone to Kuwait, we need some wise heads with Prem experience.

I wonder if, assuming he will play right back, if Clarke or Johnson might be released?

What a leader he was for us. The 2 promotion seasons, he was 7/8 out of 10 every week. Protected Cam Humphreys when he came into the team and managed to stay on 9 bookings for a large number of games. For him personally, would love to see how he would have done, had he made the premier league when he was 27 / 28 rather than 33 but selfishly, delighted he dropped down to league 1 to join us. It’s a shame we didn’t know he was leaving at the last game of the season - what a send off the crowd would have given him and Luongo. I hope that the club can arrange for him to be a special guest at a game (Norwich? providing it doesn’t clash with a game in Kuwait). He goes with everyone at the club best wishes - thanks for the memories

Absolute legend. I'm not fortunate enough to have seen the Mick Mills era but for me what I have seen Morsy is right up there as one of our best ever captains. We were far more than a 1 man team but he drove us on relentlessly and in both promotion season was a player who took control towards the end of matches and really stepped up. I haven't got the stats but I feel of the goals he scored a lot of them were towards the end of matches. He was the heart of our team and the mentality he showed often in moments of pressure was outstanding, it's like he thrived off it. That double promotion winning team will go down as Town Legends and he optimised everything which was good about it.
