In sadder cricket news... The Inquest into Graham Thorpes death concluded today - and found serious shortcomings in his care leading up to his suicide. He had suffered with severe depression for years, had tried to commit suicide once previously and was asking his wife to help him 'end it' - but despite that, he hadn't been seen by his psychiatrist or the healthcare team for several months. No-one will know for certain whether he could have been saved had he been seen in that time, but it surely seems likely. This also highlights the affects of depression on individuals - even those who, on the surface, appear to be OK. I knew Graham a bit as he started his career at Surrey as I finished my (insignificant) association with the county, but friends who knew him well never saw this coming. So very sad!
