Bristol City set to reject Vyner bid Latest from Sky Sports' Ron Walker: Bristol City are set to reject a £1m bid from Derby for defender Zak Vyner. The 28-year-old academy graduate, who has made 234 appearances for the Robins, is entering the final year of his contract at Ashton Gate. But it is understood the offer still falls well below City’s valuation of a player who missed only one Championship game last season as they reached the play-offs for the first time since 2008.
Harsh RR. Zak has improved no-end and has been a good servant. He’s not brilliant - and that’s why he’s at BS3, but he gives his all and can still do a job for us.
Weak link? He’s done us proud over the years, where could we get a decent mobile replacement for that kind of money?? He complements our less mobile defenders well!
There were times in the recent past that I wanted Zak gone due to his constant mistakes that cost us vital points in our season, but he deserves full marks from me for upping his game to the point where I think he should stay. My choices for departure would be Armstrong, Mehmeti, Cornick, Mayulu and Twine with Max only staying in an option role, with lot's of experience, to give us a good double tandem to get us past injuries and so on as they happen. My departures would mean a large personnel shift and I just can never see City letting that many leave at one shot, but it's what we need to get rid of players who don't contribute that much to the overall squad. When I see so many other clubs doing their business well in advance of the actual campaign I wonder who will be best prepared to face the challenge of a hard league from which to advance?
Yes, Zak has made some big howlers at times, but as I’ve said before, so have the likes of Naismith, Atkinson, Tanner and Dickie, yet none of them got the heat Zak did. His biggest critics were also the biggest critics of LJ, any coincidence, being Zak is one of the few players left now from that era…. He’s been one of our most consistent performers for the last 2 seasons now. We’d struggle to replace him for £1million
In today's market even I think he's worth more than a million. I think you've got it about right - he 'can do job for us' .......when Dickie, McNally and Atkinson aren't available
Personally I’d offer him a new deal. If he doesn’t want to stay, or wants too much money then he’s obviously I’d sell, but would want much more than £1m.
Funny old game i thought Mcguane was always decent and composed when he played-where Vyner has a lead foot and loves O'Leary with his back passing. Never rated Vyner limited player good squad player.
Exactly, Manning wanted possession based, rather than risk forward passing and risk losing it, always play the safe option and keep possession.
