Given how impotent we are in attack. If we can get Frigan and McBurnie. I’d be more confident of a good season.
Spot on. The bloke is a like a kid in a sweet shop. I think even I could have made a better fist of it, if only I had won that EuroMillions jackpot.
Frigan would be less wages and is younger. McBurnie is proven at our level but will cost alot in wages. Difficult one but I would go for McBurnie, am fed up of signing these foreign players who may or may not be up to it.
Is Lundstram really a Turkish league player? Like really? Seri had played there so does that make him one? As had Oscar?
Smallwood was out-of-contract that summer, I’m sure. Ironically, we’ve never adequately replaced the role he had in the team with something better. That summer we signed Tufan and Seri and later Ryan Woods. Tufan was a replacement for Honeyman, Seri brought control but needed someone physical next to him and Woods wasn’t that player and neither was Slater. We did try to sign Ndayishimiye that summer and agreed a fee with Başakşehir for a few million but wouldn’t agree to his wage demands which were around £20-25K-a-week. He joined Nice six months later for €11 million. Massive opportunity missed if you ask me because we panicked and signed Woods for a fee later in the window and his wages were around £15K-a-week. Just bizarre allocation of resources.
That's a big IF I'm afraid. I'd be happy if we got one or the other given the state we are in at the moment
The reason I mentioned it here is that it makes the deal look suspicious and financially questionable, so in that context yes to all three. The other big concern about Turkish league players in the past has been their suitability to stay fit and compete physically in The Championship, but I would say that's not as much of a worry for me regarding Lundstram, or for the other two who had played in more serious leagues before joining us.
The deal definitely has a touch of shadiness. I imagine a lot do though elsewhere we just notice it more with ourselves. I watched a podcast about how big clubs tap up players as young as 8 through offering salaries to parents to relocate them…
We're talking about the Lundstrum deal as if it's done and dusted. I'll believe we've signed him - or anyone - when I see it
To be honest Jim if the players read these forums and took any notice they wouldn’t bothering pulling their boots on again. They probably read these comments for a good laugh when socialising.
If we do get Famewo, Lundstram, Shelvey, Destan and McBurnie/Frigan, and Puerta and Laalaoui are confirmed as our players, I wonder if we'd look at getting any more in. Left back remains an issue, then probably out wide we'd look at a loanee to take the burden off Kamara and Brown until Millar and Belloumi are back?
Well while we’re at it, why don’t we just ring up Barcelona & take one of their players on loan so they can get Rashford into their squad?
I don’t actually think we’ll be much worse off than last season either. In fact I’d say once the key three are back, we’re quite a bit stronger although that is assuming that everything above works in our favour.
Still find it bizarre people want Shelvey to sign permanently. Even with a fee restriction, that is desperate.
Seems like Kenneth Paal has joined Antalyaspor and Jeffrey Schlupp has joined Norwich. It really is time Giles started earning the massive the salary he’s on.
