Just checked Transfermarkt and it says they've signed: Liberato Cacace - LB - €2.5m from Empoli George Thomason - CM - €1.4m from Bolton Ryan Hardie - ST - €825k from Plymouth Danny Ward - GK - Free from Leicester Josh Windass - AM - Free from Sheff Wed Fair bit of business done, but don't know much about the signings. They've let go a range of players, including Paul Mullin and Steven Fletcher.
I think Ipswich will probably win the league. I'm not convinced Sheff U will be contenders for the automatics under Selles, and Leicester may have issues with finances and a points deduction. They will both probably still be up there, but I think us and Birmingham might be Ipswich's main challengers.
Im looking forward to them battering us and being a whole episode in their docuseries. When the window is all said and done we should have a squad capable of playoffs minimum. The finances we have compared to 90% of the league means finishing lower than 6th would be a terrible season. We will finish about 10th because Still will be woeful and we are Saints
I think we're all being a tad negative and also insular with our concerns about ourselves that is blinding us to the rest of the division's issues. Most teams at this level face a big turnover of players, plus new managers and ideas. We have the core of a squad that will be stronger than most plus money to spend that outweighs most as well. Last time out the window shut and we lost 4 on the trot and still recovered to make top 4 in spite of many inadequacies in our team. Ultimately, the strength of the players we will have over others will get us top 6. It's then up to Still and a bit of luck whether we'll be enough of a team to make top 2.
It's known fact that being negative gets more traction than being positive, have you ever seen the news? I will wait to see what happens, even if we sign no one on, I will wait to see how the results go and how we fare, and also I don't mean after 6 games or something. I don't know what will happen either, we might be crap, we might be brilliant, I can waffle on about like I know what I'm talking about but if you read any of my posts I clearly don't. So, wait and see.
Following on from that - a prime example is Wrexham themselves, when the Hollywood lads took over, if you watch the documentary and read fans' comments, a lot did not want them there, a lot thought they were playing about for publicity and just 'know-nothing twats'. I wonder how many think that now?
The start was tongue in cheek the middle is absolutely true The end is my opinion, just don’t get a good feeling from Still but early days. I had similar feelings last time we came down but more about the mentality of the players and used to losing etc. I am not concerned about that this time such is the gulf in quality of the PL and the Champ. I have major concerns about Still though which we’ll see in due course if my feeling is right
Only watched a couple of interviews with Will Still and he seems to be taking the same approach as some teachers - don’t smile before Christmas.
When was the last time we won the last time we won the first game. I think it was 3-1 against Leeds but I can’t remember the year
Yep in fact we have won the first game of the season in our last 2 Championship seasons. We have also been promoted in our last two Championship seasons.
And in the previous Championship campaign before those two, we lost on the opening day and got relegated!
