Good Morning. It's Wednesday 23rd July, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road

Joseph slaps in transfer request amidst Real Betis links

Under 21 striker Mateo Joseph has formally submitted a transfer request, signalling his strong desire to return to his homeland. The 21-year-old informed Daniel Farke of his intentions and, consequently, refused to join the squad for their training camp in Germany, creating a standoff

Joseph's absence stems from a concrete transfer request, with Spanish outfit Real Betis heavily linked as a potential destination. The Seville-based club had a £10m knocked back in January, but have rekindled their efforts this summer with a season long loan and a £6m option to buy.

There's a suggestion that Real Betis might be approaching Leeds with a sense of entitlement, having previously secured the services of both Diego Llorente and Marc Roca on the cheap! This history could lead them to believe Leeds is a "soft touch," potentially emboldening them to try and "steal" Joseph away on the cheap.

Manager Daniel Farke has indicated that while he won't stand in the way of a player's ambition, any potential transfer for Joseph must meet the club's valuation. "A club will need to meet Leeds' demands to make a move happen," The club has, up to this point, maintained a consistent stance that Joseph is not for sale unless their financial expectations are met.

Leeds ready to pounce as Marseille hit financial stumbling block over Paixao capture

Leeds United's hopes of securing Feyenoord star Igor Paixao appear to have been rekindled, with recent reports indicating that Olympique Marseille, long considered the frontrunners, are facing significant financial hurdles in concluding a deal. This unexpected turn of events has created a crucial window of opportunity for the Whites, long time admirers of the Brazilian ace.

While Paixao himself is understood to have verbally agreed personal terms with the Ligue 1 outfit and expressed a clear desire to join them, the critical negotiations between Marseille and Feyenoord have ground to a halt. The Dutch champions are resolute in their valuation of their prized asset, demanding a premium fee reportedly exceeding £30 million. Marseille, conversely, has tabled an offer of £24 million and, according to sources like RMC Sports, appears unwilling or unable to increase their bid further, leading to a frustrating impasse for all parties involved in the French camp.

This financial deadlock at Marseille is a development Leeds United will be monitoring with intense interest. Having conducted diligent groundwork and engaged proactively with the player's representatives earlier in the transfer window, Leeds now finds themselves in a unique position to capitalise. With Marseille unable to satisfy Feyenoord's demands, Leeds could now swoop in, potentially by meeting the Dutch club's valuation or by crafting a more attractive overall package that aligns with Paixao's ambitions and Feyenoord's financial expectations.

Paixao, who enjoyed an exceptional season in the Eredivisie last campaign, showcased his immense talent by registering an impressive 16 goals and 14 assists. His remarkable output and dynamic playing style have naturally garnered significant attention across Europe. The Brazilian forward's blend of blistering pace, raw power, and an acute eye for goal aligns perfectly with Leeds' strategic vision to bolster their attacking options. For a club like Leeds, acquiring a player of Paixao's calibre would represent a significant statement of intent, providing the much-needed firepower and creativity to drive their promotion push.

    Bornauw suffers early injury setback

Leeds United's pre-season preparations have encountered an unwelcome hitch, as new signing Sebastiaan Bornauw has reportedly sustained a quad injury, sidelining him for two weeks. This early setback for the 26-year-old defender comes just as he was beginning to integrate with the squad.

Bornauw featured in the second half of Leeds' recent friendly against Manchester United, where he put in a solid performance. However, after the match, he complained of muscle tightening, leading to medical assessment. He has since been assigned light duties as he begins his recovery.

The news will be a particular concern for the club given Bornauw's extensive injury history. The Belgian international has previously contended with a range of issues, including foot, calf, head, ankle, hand, and various muscle injuries, alongside periods of illness. His susceptibility to physical setbacks makes this pre-season quad strain an early red flag for Daniel Farke and his coaching staff.

Morning all - All gone a little quiet on the transfers after last week and Longstaff and Stach - I'm hopeful by the end of the week we might see a couple out, Joseph and Bamford maybe and it would be good to get another new signing over the line

    Morning all :emoticon-0148-yes:

It’s been obvious for a while that Joseph sees his future back in Spain. Betis though are still skint and can’t find the cash to buy him outright, but Espanyol aand at least 2 more Spanish clubs interested, plus there are at least 3 championship clubs interested in him. Think there will be some competitive action coming so we should see a good PSR profit result. Hope Joseph does well because it’s not easy at Leeds trying to break through. When you get your chance you have to perform and perform again to prove yourself.

Hoping we see some action regarding outgoings now as it’s time quite a few are gone and if Leicester are chasing Meslier they need to open their wallet or is he waiting for a French club to rescue him. Cant understand why Joffy, Greenwood, Gyabi haven’t gone yet as there are plenty of takers.

Paixoa would be a dream signing and with luck he decides to join Leeds and Underwood just offers them the cash Marseille agreed to stump up and we get it done today

Did Matt miss the last month of last season or was I dreaming

I'd expect a period of inactivity over the next couple of weeks. There might be the odd outgoing but there wont be any further signings until late in the window.

I’m not too disappointed Joseph wants away. He has talent, but suspect he thinks he’s better than he currently is. He was given his chance last season, and Piroe deserved to replace him.

Hopefully we stand firm and get good value for him to move on. Attach a lucrative sell on, as I think he’ll do well in Spain. He ain’t going into the championship - his ego wouldn’t allow it.

Paixoa doesn't seem interested in us coming from what we read and hear.
are these the types of players we really want? Could be all hearsay but seems to think he is better than us.
If the reports are right and we can match what they want but he wants something else we should stay clear.
Has to be a clear out now but still plenty time to shift them they all know their place.
Need that striker now can live with Darlow even if he starts the season in goal.

One thing I noticed is that Joel Piroe isn’t stupid. He came back looking fit and bulked up a bit. He has had 2 pretty good showings, played well, scored goals and his range of passing was also outstanding. He deserves to be ahead of Nmecha as our back up striker, so far. Nmecha also looks good but not as mobile but could be a good option off the bench, so we await a really good striker now as our starter

There are another 3 Bamfords on the open market and not sure I want any of them. Callum Wilson, Jamie Vardy and Dom Calvert-Lewin. All waiting to see who gives them the most cash

It appears we are waiting for Fulham to bring in another striker before they release Muniz, so that seems on the back burner atm.
Paixao, seems to want CL football, which you can't blame him, so move on

It appears we are prioritising a keeper now, Meslier wants to go but we won't allow it until we get one in, 2 are on the shortlist and it appears there as been some movement on one,as in clubs are in negotiations

Off to the emerald isle later this evening, for a few weeks, new away top as arrived, so will be wearing that with pride over there. First top I've bought for myself since the Strongbow one, that's how much I like it.

Joseph has potential. I actually like him. The time i sat up and took notice was the 2nd goal at Sheff Wed last season. He collected the ball deep in his own half, drove forward and played a 40-50 yard pass directly in to Dan James path. That's incredibly difficult to do. It's around 1:17 in the video posted below. That little clip showed me he has the ability to play at a very high level.

Lots of stories coming out of Athletico Madrid due to the number of signing Simeoni is making. It seems they now have too many non Spaniards and need to offload at least 2. Alexander Sorloth is now 3rd or 4th striker due to Julian Alvares…. Also Connor Gallagher will be moving on too. Sorloth although 29 scores a lot of goals 2023 Villareal 34 games 23 goals, 2024 Athletico Madrid 35 games 20 goals but behind Greizman and Alvarez and now another striker coming in?

He's a bit of an enigma. I see both sides of the argument with him. Watched him play for the u21s at Boro a few years back where he scored a hat-trick of real quality and he looked a real prospect. He does things that make you think he has something, but he seemed to lose confidence in front of goal last year and that effected his all round play. Not many score for fun at his age, so he absolutely could come again... but likewise, loads of prospects fall by the wayside. In an ideal world we'd keep him and loan him out but, what will be will be.

Just like Milky I have watched him since he landed and was chuffed as we seem to have another Gelhardt on our hands, but just like Joffy the wheels came off. Last season he got the minutes but was almost Bamfordesqe in his finishing. He got quite a few chances but spurned most of them and most of them were straightforward tap ins that missed or straight at the keeper.

He is adored back in Spain and seen as Spains future 9, but the ex Barcelona kid Chelsea have Guiu is 2 years younger and scored 6 goals in nine games for Chelsea last time out, and Real Madrid have another even younger kid (Gonzalez) who scored 4 in 5 games in the club World Cup, then there is the baby Lamine Yamal at Barcelona as a starter and all of a sudden you can see why Joseph wants to get back to Spain and resurrect his career…

The club have always maintained confidence in signing Paixao

I think we will get it done and he will be our best signing

Fair play to Joseph for actually wanting to play football and not just sit on the bench and pick up wages.
Does he not lose his right to a signing on fee by asking for a transfer?
