Vince was back in an England shirt yesterday and Friday Given that he has a couple of spare weeks until the 100, he's playing in the six team Legends competition being held at Edgbaston. He made 7 from 9 vs Pakistan, and then 23 off 15 against Australia. He also took a wicket in the one over he bowled vs Pakistan. Seeing him in the same XI as Mascarenhas and Tremlett certainly rolls back the years.
The ECB are letting Tongue play on days three and four. So Notts will have to nominate before the toss tomorrow as to who will drop out after day two.
Presumably if we've decided to field the pitch will be very green. And clearly today is the best day to bowl with the overhead conditions.
I thought we'd seen the last of Joe Weatherley opening in the Championship, but he's back!! Orr must be injured, somebody did say that on the Twitter (X) comments before but I haven't seen it confirmed. I'd have gone with Albert myself, he's shown glimpses of a return to form in the T20s.
I think Weatherley would be better off taking the Duckett approach and attacking the bowlers. I don't think he's got the technique to be a tradtional opener. if he gets say, 30 or 40 at a run a ball or so he can consider that job done. I just think if he plays defensively he'll just edge one to the slips for 10 off 40 or 50 balls and that serves no purpose at all.
We've dropped a lot of catches this season, especially against Notts. And yet that one was a candidate to be the worst of them all.
I’m very pissed off with Somerset, having bought tickets for tomorrow ages ago as part of my partner’s birthday celebrations. The wicket is greener than a green thing from Greenland and after an hour’s play on Day 2, there have been 26 wickets in the match. Durham still 13 runs behind at 92-6 in their second innings. Not sure what the refund policy is, it looks like it will all be over by lunchtime on Day 2. Not acceptable.
It's worth mentioning that not only did Dawson get Jaiswal, the batter who was in on 50 odd, he also averages 80 against spin in Test cricket.
Our Championship campaign just continues to get worse. You bat first at the Rose Bowl. You bat first against the kooraburra ball. You bat first when the opposition's bowling all-rounder will be leaving the match after day two. You bat first when you have a limp bowling attack, being carried by one man. But no, we bowl first. I couldn't care less that we left some grass on the wicket and there was a bit of rain around. We're getting exactly what we deserve. Just as with against Worcs, we'll be going into bat knackered needing to bat two days to save it. The difference is that Notts' are a stronger bowling side than Worcs. We won't even make 450, let alone do it inside 110 overs. Birrell can go. Brown can hand over the captaincy. I'm done with them now.
