Just been to the Docs after being awake all night with excruciating paid in my foot, he said he thinks its gout.

Does anybody else suffer from this, and if so can you recommend any over the counter treatments or any other ways to relieve pain.
Its up there with the worst pain ive had

Doc will do some blood test, uric acid levels, and then prescribe Allopurinal. One tablet a day and problem solved. As long as you're sensible.

Oooo, they are beauties, don't half improve your 0 to 60 time as you dash to the toilet. Short term problem solve only.

Avoid or limit high purine foods as much as possible ( meat and fish ) and drinking lots of water can flush uric acid. Others it’s anti inflammatory pain relief as far as over the counter goes, primarily ibuprofen.

Thanks mate. I pretty much eat meat and fish every single day so that's obviously my downfall.
It flared up on Monday, coincidentally after id been to a Bbq on Sunday and ate my own body weight on Steak and Chicken

That will likely trigger a worst gout attack in the short term. But will help over time.

Should of asked for heavy duty Naproxen to help with the immediate pain.

Longer term, if you have multiple attacks in 12 months it will the Allopurinal every day which will be very effective.

I had a couple of flair ups 2 year ago but not bad enough to be placed on Allopurinol, which I don't want to go on TBH. If I get a twinge now, I take naproxen immediately and it goes away.

I also take 1000mg cherry extract supplements each day. Havnt had a night if gout pain since, other than the minor twinge after any heavy weekend on the beers etc.

Other than that, lose weight if you need too, will help, and one last thing, drink a **** load of water. The crystals from quicker if you're dehydrated which causes the intense pain.

Sometimes, it can cause the initial gout attack to become worse as the medication starts to get into the system.

Worst pain ever - especially in the ankle

I couldn’t walk 3 days before we played Wycombe at Wembley. Genuinely thought I’d miss the game. Absolute agony

Be amazed if you are back tomorrow if you have had a full blown attack.

Naproxen is the best, was for me at that time anway. I doubled the dose and could feel the effects after 4-6 hours.

Wish you well like. Was a couple of years ago for me, 2023 when I was drinking too many ipas over a weekend. Had minor twinges since but the cherry supplements and half a naproxen seems to keep it at bay. Dropping 18lbs has probably helped too.

Unbearable mate. Flight back from Gran Canaria was the worst I’ve ever had it. Close to tears
