Ivan Toney is the only player in recent times to hit 20 (20 Exact) goals for a newly promoted team and he was already there After that you have to go all the way back to super kev You will simply not get a 20 goal striker
You don’t need a “proven PL striker” imo. We can sign a similar high calibre talent to what we already have but upfront. There strikers out there in our price range that have scored a fair few goals in other leagues and have a lot of upside. Franjo Ivanovic - 16 goals for USG Promise David - 19 goals for USG Tolu Arokodare - 21 goals for Genk Evan Guessand - 13 goals for OGC Nice Matthis Abline - 9 goals for Nantes Just a few that I think would be smart signings upfront that would well have the ability to score a good amount in the PL
Until the season is well underway you cant say who is going down, or is winning the league. the curse of the 3 coming up to go back down will surely be broken soon, and if not then there has to be something done about it ( the super league may happen)
Yes,but there were three very poor scoring teams below them, which ultimately saved them. Even teams well clear of the bottom 3 needed 50+ goals...eg Fulham,Palace, who both conceded as many as they scored. Of course you need to keep it tight at the back, but we can't lose every match 1-0.
The midfield is a big factor in how many goals we score and we look strong there. I’d be surprised if our top scorer scores more than 12 or so, but I can see Diarra, Enzo and the wingers getting a few too.
Either way you can’t go and sign a striker who’s already scored 20 goals in this league. Look at foreign leagues like we have been doing. Also, there’s no evidence Mayenda and Isidor can’t step up. But I do think we need to bring in another of a similar calibre to what we have even signing in other positions
Ok,if we have a top scorer with 12,and we accept the 50 goal as a target( subjective,I know),that would leave Diarra,Enzo and a couple of others to get 10 goals each. Not beyond reason,I get that, but it's an ask. As @CR17 has mentioned,I'm not expecting to sign someone who's already bagged 20 goals in the PL, but, imo,we need someone who's capable of it ,having done it at a decent level somewhere.
This is where we're all getting used to the idea of the nationality of our signings. I'd also like 'English' players but the two you mention as possible signings, Morata and Lauturo, demonstrate the difficulty. When we were promoted I had a vision of the squad identity I wanted but that's gone out of the window now, in fact it's totally left the building. I'm not even trying to second guess the club now ... ... Speakman, KLD, Ghisolfi, etc, are like a hit squad scything through a pre-prepared list of targets. The only vagaries, in my mind, are the loans and I can see them being very late in the window. Of the '50 goals' we'll need I wonder how many will be down to set piece situations like free kicks and corners
Last year Brighton’s top scorer got 10 goals but they had 3 players on that total. That feels a more achievable way to get 50 goals than trying to find a 20 goal striker
Yeah we’d like to sign someone who’s capable of that, won’t argue that. Isn’t Mayenda though? He’s unpolished at times but so would any striker we bring from a weaker league. I absolutely agree I’d like to see one in, it’s a tough position to sign though especially newly promoted, and someone who’s scored 25 in Holland or whatever can really go either way. A lot of the best scorers the league has seen hasn’t really shown signs of it prior to hitting PL. Henry, top of my head, prime example.
Come on Xhaka push through a transfer. I thought it was a done deal, i even got the Swiss flag tattooed on my forehead yesterday
Everton only got 42. Palace got 51 and I think last season was reasonably high scoring. 50 goals should be comfortable survival.
