So as predicted Kier plans to empty the hotels and fill up social housing with illegals. Thats a vote winner if ever I heard one.
The ginger minger keeps tellling councils to build houses becase we need 1.5 million per year to keep up.
There’s 375 local authorities or councils in the UK, so that 1.5m homes equates to around 4000 new homes per council. There’s also 8 million homes or 21,000 homes per council (I know this method of maths is not an exact science) that are over 80 years old. Simple logic suggests that we do need to renew housing stock and aging infrastructure associated with these houses. Every government in my memory has called for new homes, this isn’t something that Labour has suddenly thrust upon us.
I think it’s around 700k empty homes. The issue is that councils would have to fund this and restoring homes would be both expensive and time consuming with no direct help from the government. It’s far easier to grant planning permission and let developers solve the problem.
