Fascinating conversation just now on LBC, Andrew Marr talking to some guy who made a mint as a city trader in London but thinks we need to tax the wealthy more. Not necessarily the proposed wealth tax, but greater taxation of HNW assets. Worth listening back to if you get a chance.

You are right mate, I should have said if the combined total goes over the threshold limit.
The old boys I am on about have never been over the limit before and they couldn’t understand why their private pension is reducing each month.

Totally agree marra, but they will be vulnerable post 2016 pensioners, and don’t get me started on taxation of pensions when people have had a working lifetime of paying tax:headbang:

Your pensions must take your earnings over the £12570 personal allowance threshold Wayne. Everyone in the country on PAYE pays tax on anything they earn over £12570.

100% agree vic, but in my opinion, the half truths spouted by the media are clouding the issue and frightening people. I would like to see the media explain the tax on pensions situation clearly and simply instead of causing unnecessary alarm.

Yes it does, but why should I pay any taxes after working all my life to pay for illegal immigrants?

That's a different argument Wayne, and not one that interests me.
I pay a hefty wedge of my occupational pension in tax and I am quite happy with that. I want nothing for nothing from anyone and will always be happy to pay my share <ok>

That’s what I posted last night. Gary Stevenson. He’s talking in Newcastle soon, I might go. He’s spot on. Not political either. He wants a broad consensus who believe this is right including the wealthy.

I think after paying taxes for 45 plus years, I shouldnt be paying any more, wish I could get the hell out of this country. Most expensive energy bills, most expensive fuel prices, we are being taxed to the hilt, but thats ok??????

Come on Wayne, I thought you were better than that. By the way, we are both paying into the same pot to enable the government to run the country <ok>

I’m genuinely happy to pay taxes because they pay for services to help other humans, as long as I can avoid bankruptcy and pay for someone kind to wipe my arse later in life. I want people like Starbucks Amazon and the Duke of Westminster to pay the same % as I do though without crying to the media.

We need to push for this for every party at every level of politics. Reform would do the opposite. It’s stated in their policies. If you’re going to vote reform make it a condition they do this. Keep the welfare state, paid for by the wealthy or the burden increases on us who work hard and it isn’t the fault of immigrants or the poor.

Wayne has a genuine valid point!
Work all your life pay into the system and when you get to retire you get taxed on pensions you’ve already paid tax on the earnings to pay into said pension, if that makes sense.
Climb off a dinghy as a fighting fit young man and claim from the system we’ve worked our entire lives paying into yet they can take a bit out of the pot without paying a penny into it !
It stinks and sickens me and millions of others
Now these scumbags want us to work into our 70s before we get to retire, basically it means work them to the bone, hope they drop dead before retirement age and that money goes back in the pot.

It’s a while since I’ve worked but isn’t your pension contribution taken out before your taxable income?
Monty’s optician might know better than me.
