Le Fee, Diarra, Sadiki, Rigg and Neil are definitely good enough to play a significant part. One more wouldn’t do any harm but isn’t absolutely critical either imo. If someone really good becomes available then fine but not at expense of keeper and centre half funds imo.
Good post mate I get being concerned over squad sizes but the club will only bring a player in if they are going to make a difference and not just signing for the sake of it The squad size will reduce after this trip and loads will go out We need players that the club believe are PL quakity and there'll be players there that RLB KS and FG don't beliebe are ready for the PL so will need replaced
I mean I get the argument about having too many players and why it might concern. I don't agree with it in our current situation but I get it.
Currently, Sadiki, Enzo and Diarra. It was said by Sunderland echo the other day the game we just had he wanted to lineup the 'connections' he wanted for matchday 1. But even so, we still need one more midfielder if Neil and Rigg are two backups
Okay so we're back to 606 being the home of only the voices that agree unreservedly with the club approach I see. Noted. Hope some of you remember that next time someone tells you to relax over the lack of a 'Here we go' in any 24 hour period I genuinely can't get our squad size down below 27 if we get the positions we're linked to filled. That's too many IMO - particularly for a head coach who only managed to get over 1000 mins to 15 players last season (despite there being an extra 8 games)
Also El Khannouss can play at LW and AM too, so that then covers the need for a winger also and gets two birds with one stone with El Khannouss
It's not about that I just have zero idea how you think it's too many in midfield? Maybe RLB didn't rotate as much last season due to our best players being injured for a good amount of time, maybe he didn't really trust the depth he had on the bench. I totally agree we can't have too many players as that would be a problem, but I'm not sure how with our current squad, given the likely departures, how adding El Khannouss would make that a squad too big?
I do think there may be a psychological affect of us being linked with what appears to be "luxury" additional midfielders before we've signed our centre backs. There's a natural reaction of worrying if the money is being spent in the wrong areas. But I have faith that that's unaffected and that they have set budgets for each position that get tweaked and normalised whenever we get one over the line.
Nothing wrong with folk disagreeing with the club at all, folk didn't agree with your comment so responded but it was more for a debate than saying 'the club can do no wrong' Imo I would rather get quality in 1st then sell players from there. I'd hate to sell players then struggle to sell players and be left short or have to overpay because clubs think we are desperate for signings so increase the funds I believe the following 1st teamers will leave Hjelde - loan Alese or Seelt - loan Aleksic - loan Browne - sold Jones - loan Young - loan Triantis - sold Poveda - sold or released Ba - sold or released Pembele - sold or released Ruysn - sold or released Hemir - sold or released Abdullahi - loan I've probably missed some off but I reckon we will have a squad of 25 or 26 for the season but that'll include 3 1st team GKs
I might be wrong but I’m sure Regis said he likes a small squad, there’s loads of work to be done still and huge numbers to go out, interesting to see the change between now and sept 1st
We've got around 11-12k prem minutes available next season in midfield. We've already got 5 midfielders who will want to get hold of a good portion of those at the club. We also want to add in another more defensive midfielder plus in this scenario an outright 10. To be a proper prem mainstay you should be clocking up around 3k minutes. However for you to be considered to have had a reasonable impact you really need to be clocking up 2k. As a specific example, Rigg doesn't stay at SAFC in 26/27 unless he gets around that next season IMO. So with 7 players looking for 2-3k minutes, the maths just doesn't add up. Of course you can probably get some of those for the number 10 to come from a wide position. However, with specific reference to El Khannouss, he would only naturally fit into the wide spot that we already have 3 viable options for - and those lads want to be hitting that 2-3k mins mark too. Managers will always want one more player. Maybe we get an injury crisis that means they come into play. Maybe they just sit on the bench and in the stands and their value dwindles. Maybe we should just accept that we're gonna overshoot and be left with some waste next summer. However, buying players for big money and not getting good use out of them will catch up to us at some point IMO.
I would be surprised, and concerned, if that were a midfield three against West Ham personally. Sadiki has some learning to do imo.
will be interesting to see the line up tonight to see if Neil comes in for Sadiki. Based purely off a single 45 minute appearance (and I guess the knowledge he's just won a league title) Sadiki looked very impressive on Saturday. I think he might surprise you.
It's a fair question. Very unlikely I'd say. If it was the agent upping the anti, or wanting a bigger fee or whatever, then the player should have sorted it then. These players have " teams" now man! Too many of the players just don't do their own thinking.
Same here Intrigued to see if Neil gets minutes with Diarra and Le Fee, the longer he goes without minutes with those 2 then I could see him off or on the bench on the 1st game Diarra and Le Fee will be 1st choice and it's a matter of who plays with them. Currently I'd give Neil the nod but if Sadiki keeps playing like he did on Saturday (it was only 45 mins) then he will be hard to drop
He has but think we will have a couple extra 1st teamers this season I think an extra defender, extra CM, an extra winger and an extra striker is likely
