If I was Bamford - I’m approaching 32 in a couple of months time, I’ve been riddled with injury, the fans don’t like me, they’ve not been supportive and they’ll be glad to see the back of me. I’m not going to be winning any trophies or getting an England call up, I don’t want to play for a lower half Championship team for under half what I’m earning now. I’d see if there was an option to join an MLS team or big money for a Saudi team, if those doors were closed I’d think screw them, I’ll not try too hard in training, I’ll take a wage for two years while exploring future media work
But if we pay him say the equivalent of 35k a week, roughly 4m to tear up his contract he’d only need a contract for 35k a week from another club. I’d say there are clubs that will risk that. I still think rangers would at that money. Remember if he insists on staying and we’re relegated then his wage halves again anyway
I think it will be the MLS or possibly stuck with him, only newly relegated teams can afford 35k a week and I can’t see them wanting him
Not sure we’ll see that many go tbh. Think Gruev/Schmidt and possibly Joseph will still be contracted to us next season, though perhaps the latter 2 will be loaned out. Think it will be hard to move on Mes and Bamford, due to a combination of salary and performance issues, and until they move on, it may delay their replacements incoming. Certainly we need to cull a few players and see no future for Greenwood/Harrison in the current set up. Don’t see a future for Gyabi or Debayo in a PL squad and Gelhart surely needs to move on to kickstart his career.
