I know Martin well. Loves the indie music, he grew up coming to the indie nights I played back in the day. He brought his American Mrs a few times over the last couple of years, played a few tunes for her, more rap and what they call r’n’b these days fir her though.

He's from your neck of the woods eh...Greenock,Gourock,Port Glasgow.

It's a fairly deprived area of Scotland to be honest(no offence intended,I'm not exactly living in utopia out here either). There's just nothing there anymore...Not that there's much happening anywhere else either.

I used to work with a maniac from Port Glasgow years ago...Regular jailbird, sticky fingers, knew a lot of people I knew, nice bloke to be fair.

Went by the name of 'Budgie'?

Non taken, it’s horrific these days. We used to have the worldwide centre for IBM in Greenock, which employed 5000 in the actual factory, then they had the support call centre which employed over 1,000 people of all nationalities. German, Italian, Spanish, Arabic, French you name it, the language was spoken there. This also led to 2 other bonuses. There were about 4 sub-contracted factories supplying parts, which of course provided another 1000 indirect jobs. The bonus all the foreign workers provided was that they used the towns services in abundance. They brought friends and family with them, so the town thrived on this. We would be busy in the club 7 nights a week. On a Monday night I would get between 150-250 people. We had the Tall Ships races for a week in the late 90’s and again, this was a massive boost for the town. Then just after this, IBM started pulling out slowly, the council never did anything to replace it. Slowly the town died and the shopping centre only has about 30% occupation now. We have a cruise terminal, where we will have 86 cruise visits this year, but as soon as the passengers arrive, they are shipped out by bus to Loch Lomond, Edinburgh, Stirling etc. The only place that benefits locally, is Primark as all the ships crew use it.

Martin is from Larkfield, a rather rough area, although there’s a lot of good people up there. He got his break when Ken Loach needed a “Ned” for his film Sweet Sixteen. Credit to him though, he worked hard at it afterwards and he got his break.

Nothing to do with Whitehouse. Wondered why what was a successful programme was dropped after 2 seasons. A combination of reasons were given. First a strike holding up production, then a new boss who wanted to concentrate resources on Minder which was an even bigger success and finally Adam Faith having a motor bike accident which put him out of action for a while. Nothing to with violence or Mary Whitehouse complaining.
The fact it was written by Keith Waterhouse and Willis Hall were writers was a guarantee of it being class writing and worth watching,

I worked for a storage&distribution company in Cumbernauld back when IBM were in full swing,we stored a lot of pallets for them and we actually used to get sent through there on occasion to do forklift work.

Scotland had a lot of manufacturing back then, very little now.

Yes,I'm a big fan of Ken Loach,he's a genius:emoticon-0148-yes: I'm not a huge fan of Martin Compston but he's done very well for himself and is still very down to Earth by all accounts...

So it affected more than just local, it affected the broader Glasgow area. Amazing what an impact one decision has.

He’s always been brilliant with me and he does a lot for local charity.

    Third kit out yet?? Hahaha

They've got a depot in Falkirk (old Midland bluebird place)...

I rely on their services from Stirling and Falkirk via Cumbernauld, needless to say my punctuality isn't quite what it used to be<doh>
