I don't understand this "classy" stuff.

    It's basic decency.

They are Portuguese and went and did a decent thing.

What is classy then and what is crass these days. (Not saying it the latter either bte)

I think what the poster was saying (and I agree with, or I wouldn't have posted it here) was that the Portuguese element of our greatest rivals took the time and effort to show their respects to a former teammate. But fair enough; you can cynically view every aspect of grief, be it public or private, as being rooted in self-interest. "Virtue-signalling", to use that hackneyed, snide, one-eyed view of expressing any emotion of support.

Death does tend to bring out the namby-pamby side in some humans. We should be grateful that some in our society are above all that. :emoticon-0112-wonde

I just see a lot of people saying "classy" like as if doing something a decent person might is the definition of this buzzword.

I'm only actually talking about this buzzword. It seems to be applied to any action a normal.human being might take in the situation.

Fernandes went to the funeral. I'm sure amorim and dalot didn't do that so they did this. I very much doubt they did it for cameras.

I don't think mito was being at all cynical there. It wasn't the actions of the Man U pair he was talking about, but the way in which it was described - as though the poster was surprised by a gesture that is natural towards a fellow footballer and compatriot.
Tragedy brings people together and puts the game in perspective - club rivalry shouldn't even enter the discussion.

You have to remember that there is more than one way of looking at and dealing with loss. In this instance, the club will have probably consulted with the Supporters Board and the family for their views. Literally everyone I've heard speak on this idea (except you) think it's a nice gesture. There is no precedent, thank God, and the club is trying it's best to read the room and respond appropriately. It has been huge for the club and fans, not to mention the family of course who will never fully get over it. You've got to your end point fairly quickly, not everyone has caught up with you, always bearing in mind that there is no right or wrong way to respond.

All those you would expect to hear from, have spoken. Training and day to day business is now moving on. It's cast a shadow, certainly but I'm sure going forward the professionals will act professionally.

You absolutely won't be the only one but you are the only one I've seen or heard.

It doesn't matter how long it lasts. It's about the gesture.

All the gestures aside, we should be using the legends game.in March to support some good causes in jota's name and maybe using the preseason friendly slot at anfield next season for a gsme with wolves or atletico or even a 4 team tournament with his hoke town team etc.

There's more practical ways to build a legacy for no 20 than a website.

I personally think theres a certain morbid nature to that.

I think they can do something nice at Kirkby. A little shrine or some such and put one in at the main stand side or centenary side as well.

They will do something fitting imo.

The practicality here is that website has a function thats not for remembering. Would they give his wife a medal for him if we are fortunate enough tow in something this season?

I don't know. There's no right or wrong but you have to return to normality at some point.

Actually the club's official website is for whatever they want it to be. It's a gesture that while it may irk some, it's bringing pride or solace or whatever other word fits here with immortalising an individual who meant so much to so many. It's quiet and respectful. You don't even know it's there unless it's pointed out to you.

The fact that Jota's loss is resounding around the world with players copying his celebrations and music concerts everywhere playing big screen videos dedicated to him, shows the enormity of the impact it's had. His value as a human being is the same as everyone else. The reach he had isn't.

I have to say my opinion is that its going to look odd and its not the function of the website section.

By all means create a section for him and the video collection.

In reality his squad position in the 25 man Premier league squad will be taken by someone so this kind of stuff is just.one more event to get through.

I really struggle why anyone would be offended / dislike / have issues with this type of stuff.

Im certainly not in the ‘this is incredible what a special thing they’ve done’ group. But it literally has zero impact in any of my day to day life. I would never have known about it if wasn’t mentioned here as would never go to lfc site, sub section mens team and scroll to bottom and see it. And now I do know it’s there, ok.. still doesn’t impact me.

What logical reason would anyone have to have issue with it?

well if he is a permanent member of the squad he will be in the list next year and the year after and it really doesn't take much searching on the LFC website to find the squad
